Extra Innings Win Over Trinity Christian
The MMCRU Royals softball team squeaked out a win on the road over Trinity Christian Tigers at Hull on May 27. The Tigers took a 3rd inning lead with 3 runs. The Royals answered in the top of the 4th with just 2 runs. They played good defense to hold the score at 3-2 going into the 5th. It was a great at- bat for the Royals. They addd 3 runs to their totoal and held their host to just 2 runs. The game score sat knotted at 5 for the remainder of regulation. The extra 5th inning gave the game to the Royals when they scored a run without an answer in the 8th givng the Royals a 6-5 win.
Sophomore Tia Tentinger’s 2 for 4 hitting led the Royals. She scored 1 and hit 2 triples. Senior Deanna Partridge hit 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI. Senior pitcher Isabelle Richardson pitched all 8 inning throwing 5 Ks.
HMS at Remsen
The Hawks and the Royals played 5 innings of softball on May 28 at Remsen. The Royals scored 12 runs in the first two innings. That was the end of the scoring for both teams ending with a 12-0 score.
Richardson owned the mound for the 4 innings that the Royals defended.
The Hawks were able to record 3 singles and 2 walks. The Royals put 5 singles and a double into play. Tentinger helped out with 3 of 5 RBIs and the double.
Royals Goose-egg Wolverines
MMCRU was in Paullina on May 30. Scoring didn’t begin until the top of the 3rd when the Royals brought home 3. Another runner came home in the 4th and again in the 6th to end the scoring.
Sophomore Chloe Alesch’s 2 for 3 hitting led the team. She had scored 2 runds and hit a double. Senior Breanna Staab’s double brought home a runner. Richardson’s sent 5 back to the dugout.
Despite the score, the pitching battle allowed only 2 walks between both pitchers. Three batters got hit.
Cherokee Played at Cleghorn
The game was runless until the bottom of the 5th when the host Royals brought in 5 runs. The scored a bonus run in the 6th. For a short while in the 7th it looked like the Braves might put on a comeback. Their charge was stopped at 2 runs.
Richardson scored 2. Tentinger hit a double and brought in 2 runs in her only hit out of 3 at-bats. Richardson pitched all 7 innings with 4 Ks. The game final was 6-2.
Softball at Harris-Lake Park
Royals scored throughout the first 4 innings with a big 3rd inning. They needed it after falling behind after the 1st. They reclaimed the lead pretty handily in the second and never looked back.
The Royals put 29 hitters in the box bringing 15 in for a score. Eleven hits were produced including a homerun by Chloe Alesch. Alesch also brought 5 runners home out of a tem 9 RBIs.
Alesch took the mound for 7 innings and put 3 back into the dugout and walked 3.
Central Lyon Comes to Cleghorn
The 8-0 win over Central Lyon gives the Royals a 6-0 record early in the softball season. The 8 runs came from consistently bringing home a runner or more in each of the first 5 innings. Senior Breanna Staab went 2 for 2 and scored 3 runs and a triple. Tentinger’s only hit, a double, left her stranded but she is good for 2 RBIs. Richards recorded 2 more Ks from the 5 innings.
Both teams had players get on base 6 times. Central Lyon only singles. Royals recorded 3 singles, a double and two triples.
Only One Remains Undefeated
Friday June 6 took the MMCRU Royals to Akron to face the always powerhouse Akron-Westfield softball team. They showed their power from the start. AW opened with 3 runs in the first and put up runs in most innings. Their fielding proved challenging, holding the Royals scoreless until the 5th inning. And their hitters either weren’t picky or they can hit anything. Richardson’s always tough pitching netted zero Ks. It’s been a tough week with a tournament remaing Saturday.
At the same time, Royals limited AW pitcher Avery Gaswint to just 3 Ks. The Royals performance Friday was better thant the score revealed.
Staab hit 2 for 3 and an RBI. She did not get home this game. AW senior Allie Swoyer high 3 for 3, coming home to score 3 and added 3 RBIs. She hit 1 of AW’s doubles. AW claimed a 10-2 win.
Tournament Win at Ruthven
Ruthven-Ayrshire Titan Tournament hosted West Hancock and MMCRU at Ruthven Saturday. The first face West Hancock Eagles, claiming the game 10-7. The box scores online are reversed. No other report on scoring will be provided at this time.
Breanna Staab hit 3 for 3 with 3 runs, an RBI and an RBI. Chloe Alesch faced 32 batters. She pitched all 7 innings throwing 8 strikeouts.
MMCRU next faced Graettinger-Terril-Ruthven Ayrshire. Knotted at 2 at the end of 1, the Royals scored two more runs in the 2nd. GTRA scored 4. The Royals caught up in the 3rd. The 6-run tie was broken in the 5th by the Royals. A run in each of the 5th and 6th innings took them to a nice 3-run inning to end the game 11-7. The Royals went 2-0 for the tournament.
Breanna Staab’s 3 hits brought her home twice with 2 RBIs and 3 doubles. Freshman Raya Staab hit 3 for 3 with 2 runs, 3 RBIs and 2 doubles. Richardson pitched 7 innings and threw 6 Ks.
