Great Ways to Support Your Local Library
Love your local library? New cuts to federal library funding are putting important community institutions at risk nationwide.
While everyone knows that libraries support communities by providing area residents with books and other media, what they may not realize is that libraries serve other vital functions. They also provide children’s literacy programming, classes and workshops for adults, career development assistance, free use of computers and more.
Here are a few ways you can help protect libraries and ensure communities have continued access to these services:
Get a library card: If you don’t already have a library card, get one!
Spread awareness: Vocalize your support for libraries using the hashtags #ForOurLibraries and #FundLibraries and tag your congressional representatives.
Contact your representatives: Call or email your members of congress voicing your support for federal funding for libraries. Encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.
Vote in every election: It’s important to vote in every election for candidates whose priorities align with your own. Research local, state and federal candidates and support those that support libraries.
Libraries are the heart and soul of every community. By lending a few minutes of your time, you can help your own local library thrive.
