Mrs. Max Radcliffe and Mrs. Floyd Nagle will represent the Goodburn Post Auxiliary at the state convention in Des Moines June 2-4.
Funeral services for Mrs. Agnes Warren were conducted at the Brink Chapel Wednesday afternoon with Rev. William Jones officiating.
Kenneth Livingston of Spencer, last Monday purchased the Kay Theater from G.A. Brink and will take possession on Sunday.
Only two Civil War veterans, Ed Rose and N.J. Wells, marched with members of the American Legions at the Annual Memorial Services held last Sunday morning at the Methodist Church.
90 Years Ago -1935
Louise, Mary and Dorothy Woodall, daughters of Mr. & Mrs. Tom Woodal of Tilden Township, sand over radio station KSOO in Sioux Falls Sunday afternoon.
The Marcus band will make its initial appearance of the summer when it takes part in the Memorial Day ceremonies Thursday morning under the direction of Carl Sagness.
The members of the graduating class of 1935 of the Marcus Public School received their diplomas at the graduation exercises held at the high school auditorium Friday evening.
A family dinner was enhoyed at the John Dorr home Saturday in honor of the 90th birthday anniversary of Elizabeth Dorr.
One hundred and eleven corn and hog bonus checks arrived in Cherokee County the latter part of the week and the distribution began Monday at the fArm Bureau offie at Cherokee.

Funeral service were held Sunday for Mr. Aaron Anderson, 85 at the Oakdale Evangelical Church.
Mrs. A.P. Johnson passed away at the Sioux Valley Hospital last Tuesday evening at the age of 86.
Mayor Bass bought the first ticket to the Fireman’s Ball May 22 at the Novar Ballroom.
The Marcus Fire Department was called Friday to the Frank Rubbert home, where an old farm house being used as a brooder caught fire from the brooder stove.
Special of the week at Treinen’s Market. Corn fed fancy T-bone steaks, per pound 27 cents.
Six horses, 23 head of hogs and one calf died in a fire which totallly destroyed a barn of the farm three miles north of Marcus owned by George Johnson Saturday evening.
80 Years Ago – 1945
Word of death of T/5 Arlie Wirt, who was killed in action in France came to Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Wirt Parker, Sioux Dakota, from the War Department.
Pvt. Raymond Geringer, first liberated prisioner of war to return to Marcus, was welcomed home by his family and friends Wednesday, May 9.
George W. Weimer passed away Friday afternoon at a rest home in Hartley.
Shirley Mayer, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Ervin Meyer, was announced as eighth grade valedictorian of the county rural school.
Technical Sgt. George Dorr arrived in Marcus Wednesday morning from the Philippine Islands after spending 12 months overseas.
George Wildon formerly of Meriden will assist manager Melvin Dorr in the general management of the Mill at Correctionville and Granville as well as the Dorr Feed Mill in Marcus.

Lt. Arno Wittkopp arrived Saturday morning from the Great Lakes Naval hospital. He has received his discharge from the Navy.
Sunday morning Mrs. Caroline Ludden passed away at her home at the age of 91 years 8 months and 6 days.

Services for Mrs. N.C. Nielsen, 74, of Marcus, will be held Friday afternoon at the Peace Lutheran Church.
Ronald Satterlee resigned Tuesday from the Board of Education of the Marcus Independent School.
Dorothy Dorr, Patricia Dorr and Jeanne Krejow were the three eighth grade students of the Christian Day School honored May 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Richard Galles has enlisted in the Army and is now taking basic training at Ford Ord, California.
Robert Meehan, son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Meehan, won first place in a poetry contest sponsored by the Sioux City Catholic Youth Organization.
Mr. & Mrs. Herman Fischer entertained at dinner Sunday in honor of the first birthday anniversary of their daughter.
Services for Mrs. Henry Wendt will be held Friday afternoon at Peace Luthan Church.

Alan Grauer, son of Mr. & Mrs. Albert Grauer of Marcus, was a presented with the Plin Beebe Memorial Scholarship for being the outstanding underclassman returning to the law school at the University of South Dakota in September.
Funeral services for Thomas Joseph Garvin, 92, of Sioux City, were held in Holy Name Church here Monday morning.
Clem Freking of Hospers, well known in the Marcus community, died at his home Sunday evening, May 22. His death was attributed to a heart attack.
Mr. & Mrs. Welton Hesse of Meriden are the parents of a son born Sunday, May 22.
Janice Gates, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Ray Gates was revealed as valedictorian of the graduation class of the Marcus Public School at the commencement exercises last Wednesday.
Mrs. Clara Bird has received word from her son, Jim that he will be transferred from Long Beach California to Anacortes, Washington. Jim is employed by the Shell Oil Company.

Ronald Dorr, son of Mr. & Mrs. Harold Dorr of Marcus, has been appointed to the Board of Religion at Grinnell College for next year. He is one of two people who will plan the vespers program.
Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Collins of Ocean Park, California are the parents of a son born May 20.
William Miller, 60, of Cleghorn passed away Thursday night, May 19 at Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars following a lingering illness.
Father Robert J. O’Reilly, pastor of Holy Name Parish in Marcus, celebrated his silver jubilee of ordination to the priesthood Thursday, May 12 with the offering of a Solemn High Mass of Thanksgiving.
Mr. & Mrs. M.H. Galles of Long Beach, California are the parents of a daughter born May 15.

Bob Lancaster, a Boy Scout official from LeMars, presented the charter for the Marcus Club Scouts Toop at a meeting held May 19 in the municipal building. Charles Beaton accepted the charter on behalf of the Jaycees, the sponsoring organization.
Dinner guest gathered Sunday in the home of Mr. & Mrs. Gary Rasmussen to observe the 24th wedding anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. Harry Rasmussen.
Relatives here Tuesday evening received word of the death of Mark Flanagan, a native of Marcus, in Eureka, California.
Mr. & Mrs. Duane Prunty of Coupeville, Washington, announce the birth of a son on May 16.
Roy Bork of Cleghorn recently plowed up an interesting Indian relic, It is a huge tomahawk or hammer head.

Ronald Garvin, son of Mr. & Mrs. Merlin Garvin, was the recipient of the Air Force ROTC First Honors Ribbon at the Sioux Dakota State University at Brookings.
Mr. & Mrs. Harold Smith of Cherokee will hold open house in observance of their 35th wedding anniversary on June 7 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cherokee.
Henry Schroeder, 27 of Marcus passed away Sunday, May 17 at the Cherokee Hospital.
Mr. & Mrs. Robert Thompson of LeMars are parents of a son born Thursday, May 7.
Bob Leavitt, son of Mr. & Mrs. John Leavitt and Connie Mead, son of Mr. & Mrs. Merle Mead will attend Boys State at Camp Dodge, Fort Des Moines from June 6-12.
Mr. & Mrs. Cy Delaney were dinner guests of Mrs. Helen Raveling Friday evening at Mickalowskys in Merrill on the occasion of their 36th wedding anniversary.
50 Years Ago -1975
On Friday, May 16 friends and neighbors of Wendell Rainboth plowed 120 acres, disked 220 acres and planted 120 acres of land. Mr. Rainboth is a surgical patient in University Hospital in Iowa City.
Mr. & Mrs. Gary Bork are parents of a son born Tuesday, May 20 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee.
James Weber, son of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Weber, Rt. 1 Marcus, has been awarded a $100 Adolph Shane Memorial Scholarship at Iowa State University, where he is a junior in electrical engineering.
Richard Kuehn took the physician’s oath at convocation in Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City May 16 and graduated with a Degree of Doctor of Medicine from the University of Iowa, on May 17.
Mr. & Mrs. Chet Wurth of LeMars are parents of their first child a son, born Tuesday, May 29 in a Orange City Hospital.
45 Years Ago – 1980
The children of Mr. & Mrs. Paul Shea of Marcus invite you to celebrate with them their 25th wedding anniversary on May 31.
Each year, through the W.L. Gund Educational Trust, a cash award is given to the senior with the highest grade point average in the Marcus Community School. This year Kristi Petersen, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Glen Petersen, received the $400 cash award.
Mr & Mrs. Gene Cave of Remsen are proud parents of a baby girl born Monday, May 12 at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.
Florence Givern, 77 of Grand Rapids, Minnesota died Sunday, May 11 at Itasca Memorial Hospital. She is the sister of Ruth Kintigh of Cleghorn.
Rebecca Schmillen has been awarded her Bachelor of Arts Degree form Briar Cliff College is Sioux City at commencement ceremonies on May 17. Rebecca is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Schmillen of rural Marcus.
