Cherokee County Board of Supervisors Meeting
The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 with Bryan Petersen, Cheryl Ellis, Dave Skou, Ray Mullins II and Shane Bellefy present. Erin Rydgren, Chronicle Times, represented the press. Nancy Nelson, Chuck Stubbe, Kelly Puhrmann, Stu Hogg, Kenny Schlenger and Karin Cedar were also in attendance. Unless otherwise indicated, all votes were offered as follows: Ayes – Mullins, Ellis, Bellefy, Skou, Petersen; Nayes – none; Abstentions – none.
Chairman Petersen called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion by Skou, seconded by Bellefy to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Ellis, seconded by Mullins to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.
There were no comments from the public.
Kelly Puhrmann, County Engineer, discussed activities in the Secondary Roads Department.
Chris Nelson, Cherokee County Fair Board Association, thanked the supervisors for their continued support and explained how county funds are used to benefit 4H, FFA and open class participants. Nelson reported that a full slate of events are planned for the 2025 fair. The supervisors thanked Nelson for the detailed report and expressed appreciation to fair board members and volunteers who have stepped up to continue the local fair tradition.
Nancy Nelson, Green Pastures Country Boutique, requested one block of L51 in downtown Quimby to be temporarily closed for a vendor and barbeque event on April 26, 2025. After a lengthy discussion, consensus was to have Nelson contact Quimby city officials to verify their approval and agreement to take charge of placing and removing road closure signs for the event. Nelson will report back at a later date for further consideration by the Board of Supervisors.
Ann Smisek, Ahlers & Cooney, P.C., joined the meeting via zoom to review a proposal to provide human resource services to Cherokee County.
Motion by Bellefy, seconded by Skou to approve a proposal with Ahlers & Cooney for employment law and human resource services with a $1,200 monthly fee effective March 18, 2025. Motion carried.
Motion by Skou, seconded by Ellis to authorize the chairman to sign a letter to P.J. Greufe & Associates terminating human resource services effective March 18, 2025. Motion carried.
The supervisors provided committee reports and reviewed meeting schedules.
There being no further business, Chairman Petersen called for a motion to adjourn the meeting.
Motion by Mullins, seconded by Ellis to adjourn the meeting at 10:04 a.m.
