MMCRU girls drop their first two games of the season
The basketball season started for the MMCRU girls with a pair of losses. The Royals hosted Harris-Lake Park December 3 at Remsen with the Wolves winning 47-37. Then it was a road trip to Hartley on December 6 where MMCRU came out on the short end of a 64-48 score against HMS. Neither of the games counted in the War Eagle Conference standings.
Harris-Lake Park outscored the Royals 10-3 in the third quarter to build a 37-26 lead which held up for the Wolves. MMCRU was 13-of-47 from the field for 28 percent. The Royals made just two of 19 three-point attempts and were 9-of-16 at the free throw line. Harris-Lake Park shot 35 percent (16-of-46) with four treys and was 11-of-22 at the line.
Tia Tentinger led MMCRU with 15 points. Kylie Harpenau scored six points, Chloe Alesh and Lana Florine five points apiece, Riley Groves four points and Aleah Lux two. Groves and Florine each had two assists. Alesch latched onto seven rebounds. Lux and Groves each collected six caroms. Groves and Florine recorded one steal apiece while Lux and Florine each blocked a shot. The turnover totals showed the Royals with 24 and HLP with 18.
The Royals faced another deficit in their game with Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, trailing 32-12 at halftime. Things were better in the third quarter where MMCRU outscored the Hawks 23-16 but the deficit was too large to overcome. HMS shot 36 percent from the field and pulled down 46 rebounds. The Royals helped the Hawks end up with 26 turnovers. No MMCRU stats were available for this game.
