Cherokee County Board of Supervisors Meeting
The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 with Rick Mongan, Bryan Petersen, Duane Mummert, Cheryl Ellis and Dave Skou present. Erin Rydgren, Chronicle Times, represented the press. Daniel Den Boer, Sonia Calderon, Vanessa Ibarra, Kenny Schlenger, Kelly Puhrmann, Stu Hogg and Stephanie Zarr in attendance. Unless otherwise indicated, all votes were offered as follows: Ayes – Ellis, Skou, Mummert, Petersen, Mongan; Nayes – none; Abstentions – one.
Chairman Mongan called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion by Mummert, seconded by Skou to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Petersen, seconded by Ellis to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.
Motion by Skou, seconded by Mummert to approve the claims for payment as presented. Motion carried. A complete listing is available for review in the County Auditor’s office and online

There were no comments from the public.
Daniel Den Boer, Sonia Calderon and Vaness Ibarra, Family Crisis Centers, provided an informative review of services provided to Cherokee County residents and requested continued funding of $5,000.00. The request will be taken under consideration during the budget process.
Kelly Puhrmann, County Engineer, provided a review of current construction projects including F Avenue which is on schedule with all right of way purchases completed; resurfacing on River Road is currently in progress; and the Diamond 105 bridge replacement project will have a February bid letting.
Kenny Schlenger, Roads Superintendent, discussed vehicle needs and a plan to implement a rotation schedule for long term budgeting.
Matt Todd, Cherokee County Weed Commissioner, presented an annual report of weed control activities for consideration
Motion by Mummert, seconded by Skou to approve the 2024 Weed Commissioner’s Report as presented.
Motion carried
Chairman Mongan opened one bid received for snow removal at the courthouse.
Motion by Petersen, seconded by Ellis to accept a bid from Benson Construction for snow removal at the courthouse and law enforcement center with salt applied as needed. Motion carried with Mummert abstaining.
Motion by Petersen, seconded by Mummert to authorize a credit card to be issued for use by the Cherokee County Auditor’s Office, Medical Examiner Investigator and Courthouse Maintenance. Motion carried.
The supervisors provided committee reports and reviewed meeting schedules.
There being no further business, Chairman Mongan called for a motion to adjourn the meeting.
Motion by Petersen, seconded by Ellis to adjourn the meeting at 9:42 a.m.
