Cherokee County Board of Supervisors Meeting
The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 with Rick Mongan, Bryan Petersen, Duane Mummert, Cheryl Ellis and Dave Skou present. Erin Rydgren, Chronicle Times, represented the press. Craig Schmidt, Steve Zarr, Laura Jones, Sarah Tracy and Sam Boothby were also in attendance. Unless otherwise indicated, all votes were offered as follows: Ayes – Ellis, Skou, Mummert, Petersen, Mongan; Nayes – none; Abstentions – none.
Chairman Mongan called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion by Petersen, seconded by Ellis to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Skou, seconded by Mummert to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.
There were no comments from the public.
Steve Zarr, Survey Engineering Technician, presented right-of-way permits for consideration.
Motion by Mummert, seconded by Skou to approve an underground construction on county right of way application for Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative in Sections 13 and 24 of Marcus Township. Motion carried.
Motion by Mummert, seconded by Skou to approve an underground construction on county right of way application for WesTel Systems in numerous sections near Washta in Pilot, Cherokee and Silver Townships. Motion carried.
Motion by Ellis, seconded by Mummert to approve a proposed 2023/2024 budget amendment for publication and set a public hearing for 9:00 a.m. on May 14, 2024. Motion carried.
Motion by Mummert, seconded by Skou to approve a separation of employment and $6,522.33 final payout of hours worked, vacation, comp and longevity for Adam Booth, Secondary Roads Operator, effective April 10, 2024. Motion carried.
Motion by Petersen, seconded by Mummert to acknowledge a salary adjustment from $64,027 to $67,355 (5.2% increase) for Laura Jones, Conservation Director/Naturalist, effective July 1, 2024 as previously approved by the Cherokee County Conservation Board. Motion carried.
Motion by Ellis, seconded by Mummert to acknowledge a $23.00 per hour wage authorization for Jon Welch, Conservation Technician, effective April 15, 2024 as previously approved by the Cherokee County Conservation Board. Motion carried.
Motion by Petersen, seconded by Skou to acknowledge a $15.00 per hour wage authorization for Neal Rogge, Seasonal Park Technician, effective April 22, 2024. Motion carried.
Motion by Mummert, seconded by Petersen to acknowledge a $15.00 per hour wage authorization for Colton Samsel, Seasonal Park Technician, effective May 13, 2024. Motion carried.
Motion by Skou, seconded by Petersen to acknowledge a $15.00 per hour wage authorization for Allison Daum, Seasonal Park Technician, effective May 13, 2024. Motion carried.
Motion by Ellis, seconded by Mummert to approve a $60,600 (80% of Recorder) salary authorization for Amanda White, Deputy Recorder, effective April 15, 2024. Motion carried.
Motion by Skou, seconded by Mummert to approve a $23.35 per hour wage authorization for Daengnoi Mounthep, Auditor/Recorder Clerk, effective April 15, 2024. Motion carried.
The supervisors provided committee reports and reviewed meeting schedules.
There being no further business, Chairman Mongan called for a motion to adjourn the meeting.
