Cherokee County Board of Supervisors Meeting
The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 with Rick Mongan, Bryan Petersen, Duane Mummert, Cheryl Ellis and Dave Skou present. Erin Rydgren, Chronicle Times, represented the press. Derek Scott, Sarah Tracy, Kelly Puhrmann, Kenny Schlenger and Sam Boothby were also in attendance. Unless otherwise indicated, all votes were offered as follows: Ayes – Ellis, Skou, Mummert, Petersen, Mongan; Nayes – none; Abstentions – none.
Chairman Mongan called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Motion by Skou, seconded by Mummert to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Motion by Petersen, seconded by Ellis to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.
Motion by Mummert, seconded by Skou to approve the claims for payment as presented. Motion carried. A complete listing is available for review in the County Auditor’s office and online.

Sarah Tracy, County Engineer, presented a five year construction program and DOT budget.
Motion by Skou, seconded by Ellis to approve the FY25-29 Five Year Construction Program as prepared by County Engineer staff. Motion carried.
Motion by Ellis, seconded by Mummert to approve the FY25 DOT Budget as presented. Motion carried.
Tracy reported that spring construction work has begun with bridge and road projects underway.
Kenny Schlenger, Roads Superintendent, requested permission to fill a vacant operator position.
Motion by Petersen, seconded by Mummert to authorize the Secondary Roads Superintendent to post and publish to fill a vacant operator position. Motion carried.
Derek Scott, County Sheriff, presented a revenue report for consideration.
Motion by Skou, seconded by Mummert to accept the Sheriff’s $51,576.34 March 31, 2024 Quarterly Revenue Report as presented with $26,042.55 retained by the county. Motion carried.
Sam Boothby, County Recorder, presented a revenue report for consideration.
Motion by Mummert, seconded by Skou to approve the County Recorder’s $72,532.67 March 31, 2024 Quarterly Revenue Report with $26,522.79 retained by the county. Motion carried.
Motion by Petersen, seconded by Ellis to approve a separation of employment and $2,294.04 final payout of hours worked and vacation for Meredith Aguirre, Deputy Recorder, effective April 3, 2024. Motion carried.
Motion by Mummert, seconded by Ellis to approve a $24.35 per hour wage authorization for Karin Cedar, Payroll/Accounting Clerk, effective April 15, 2024. Motion carried.
The supervisors provided committee reports and reviewed meeting schedules.
There being no further business, Chairman Mongan called for a motion to adjourn the meeting.
Motion by Petersen, seconded by Skou to adjourn the meeting at 9:23 a.m.
