Officer Flikeid Visits MMC Food Pantry Board Meeting

On April 9, Marcus Police Officer, Brian Flikeid, visited with the MMC Community Ministries Food Pantry Board. Information was shared about welfare fraud, such as persons selling their Food Stamp cards for cash to purchase drugs or alcohol, then coming to a Food Pantry for their food. Officer Flikeid reported that this does happen in our community, however, welfare fraud has been very infrequent in the Marcus area. The Food Pantry Board was provided with information about ways to identify potential welfare fraud, the importance of reporting any suspicion of welfare fraud, and the value of having open communication between citizens and the police regarding this matter. Officer Flikeid stated that the vast majority of patrons who come to the Food Pantry truly are in need of help with obtaining food for themselves and their families. Many thanks to Officer Flikeid for providing this valuable presentation for the MMC Community Ministries Food Pantry Board!
