Welcome Dr. Kendall Glidden

by Mari Radtke
MEDCO and Daryl Downs have successfully filled the building at 416 N. Main Street. The property has served many purposes over the last 30 years, most recently as a chiropractic office. That purpose is once again fulfilled. Dr. Kendall Glidden and his young family have taken up residence in Marcus.
Glidden, a Benkelman, Nebraska native, earned his BA from University of Nebraska, Kearney. Growing up in the rural community of Benkelman, chiropractic was one of conservative, first choice avenues of health care. Benkelman is situated in a tri-state area similar to Sioux City. It is near the Kansas and Colorado borders. Dr. Glidden was first introduced to chiropractic care as a kid. He recounted 3 instances of his first hand experience with it. The first was adjustments from a jungle gym fall, landing flat on his back. He said his local chiropractor’s work relieved his pain from that fall. Growing into a young man and experiencing the less joyful side of athletics, football specifically, he came to know that he would find a profession in healthcare.
Conservative, holistic healthcare became Dr. Glidden’s direction while doing college job shadowing. By conservative healthcare, Glidden means that hospitals are used for very serious issues such as broken bones. It’s not the first destination for every situation. The holistic refers to treating the body and person as a whole. Areas of focus for him with a patient would include adjustments, stretches, exercise and diet. He is quick to add with emphasis, sleeping positions.
Dr. Glidden went on the earn his Doctor of Chiropractic at Davenport, IA. After earning his degree, Dr. Glidden returned to his hometown where his mentor, Dr. Mathews of Mathews Family Chiropractic opened a location for Kendal to served the one of the practiceÕs three locations as an associate. Kendal was with Mathews Family Chiropractic for six years before coming to Marcus.
Kendal’s wife, Madison (Harpeneau) is a native of the Marcus area. They share a 6-month old girl, Kaylynn. Madison is an Occupational Therapist. It was the need for daycare that helped bring the young family [back] to the Marcus area. That and a lot of family. “We are excited to be close to family,” Kendal said. He went on to say, “I love the small town. I’m not a fan of cities.”
Glidden Family Chiropractic officially opened Monday February 12. On that day he already had appointments for the week and walk-ins came also. “It’s starting off well,” he said.
Glidden Family Chiropractic is currently in the process of getting its credentialing from insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid. He describes it as a slow process but wants it done correctly.
Services currently available include a variety of techniques. His most aggressive method of care is manual adjustment. He also uses a drop table for less aggressive manipulation and an activator for those patients preferring a very non-aggressive form of adjustment. He also boasts a special table with a drop out center to accommodate pregnant women and Flexion Distraction to aid in relieving lower back pain and/or disc problems. Ultrasound is used to help reduce muscle, tendon and ligament inflamation. Electro-stimulation is used to relax tight muscles. He does not use injections or medications. Also in the credentialing mill for Glidden Family Chiropractic is the ability to perform sports physicals.
