Feedlot Form 2024 for Beef Industry
Where is the beef industry headed? Drought, a shrinking cow herd, rising costs, new regulations, and inflation has the industry floundering and producers wondering how to move forward, according to Beth Doran, beef specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.
“How to navigate these issues is the focus of Feedlot Forum 2024 on January 16 at the Terrace View Event Center in Sioux Center, Iowa,” Doran said. “This year’s Forum will begin at 8:45 with a trade show featuring 19 industry leading businesses.”
Keynote speaker for the Forum is Mike Murphy, CattleFax market analyst.
“Feedlot profits have eroded, and liquidation within the cowherds continues,” Doran said. “Mike will visit about the status of the industry and provide projections as to when and how it might expand.”
Doran shared that other pertinent industry presentations will include:
Effect of starter starch content on preweaning performance of beef x dairy calves
Packer’s perspective on beef x dairy carcasses
New industry leadership
New implant regulations
Farm Bill update
Update on market transparency and price discovery issues
Feedlot Forum 2024 is the collaboration of ISU Extension and Outreach, the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, and the Lyon, Plymouth, and Sioux County Cattlemen’s Associations.
Pre-paid registration is due Jan. 9 and may be made either online or via mail.
