Girls’ Track Takes Seventh At WEC Meet
By Darley Carrillo
The MMCRU girls’ track team traveled to Hartley on Monday, May 3 for their conference meet. The girls completed the meet placing seventh out of ten teams. The girls endured tough competition, and many came out strong with outstanding PR’s. Taking the win was Unity Christian with a total of 174 points.
I asked runner and thrower Taylor Harpenau her thoughts about the meet. Harpenau stated, “Our conference meet gave us lots of competition. I think we did a good job of pushing ourselves with the wind. We had the competition to get better and prepare us for districts.”
Coach Boekhout stated, “Probably the highlight of last night’s conference meet in Hartley was the fact that MMCRU earned the War Eagle Conference Sportsmanship Award. That’s a very special honor for our athletes and community which was voted on by administrators, athletic directors, and students from every school in the conference. The conditions were less than ideal with a 40 mph wind and cool temperatures, but we continued to battle and came up with numerous season bests and medal winners. I feel like we’re peaking at the right time and we will finish the year strong.”
