Sunday August 6 will be the sixth Sunday since I had my fall. Things are getting better but not fast enough for me. I have things to do that I wish I could but not yet. I do want to thank Steve for going to the last two meetings and for Bethany for typing up some of the Heartland Care meeting. Saturday night I started at 8:45 to type up the Bear program and finished the page and a half at 12:15. I I have only one finger to peck away with. When I was done, my fractured shoulder was back to its normal pain. That is when I asked Bethany to help type the Heartland Care one. I think she didn’t get to bed until 5 a.m. She had gone to Goodwill and found some good looking tops for a little of nothing and minus the tax. Bethany went again today and found even more tops at Goodwill that only cost 99 cents for each top with tax. It was the last day that they were doing this sale before school. They are very nice looking tops. It was a very good bargain. Just imagine what they would cost if bought at the actual store at regular price. Now that was a good bargain.
I received a Christmas card from my sister Carolyn from Dec. of 2022. Someone had been “hatching it” and finally decided to leave it in the mailbox. She was recuperating from shoulder surgery at that time. I called her to let her know that I had finally received the card. I asked her to call me back but that will probably not happen. Her grandson was in the last part of pharmacy school and her granddaughter is a residential designer (whatever that is) in Scottsdale, Arizona.
I sure hope everything is for the better for Heartland. The way our government (I don’t care what color—red, blue, etc. official is wearing) is handling money, it is understandable how nursing homes are loosing out. All the promises that the candidates are promising will probably never happen—all they want is our vote.
I wish the pictures of bears that Marjo showed the kids could have been printed. The beauty of these bears was something that only color would show! I didn’t realize the bears would be that big that they stuffed. I thought they would be small bears. There were a lot of people that came to this program.
I was glad that people actually came to the public meeting on Wednesday night. Having a nursing home that also offers assisted living not be able to meet expenses that are not being covered by any available money, is not a good thing. Nursing homes are closing all to many. There is one in Morningside that has over 20 problems that have been reported as to the care given to their patients. This has been going on for more than two years that they have been written up. I understand it is closing up.
This is the week of the Marcus Fair. Thursday night is when Little Miss Marcus will be crowned. Babies on Parade will also be that night. It is also the day when a person brings baking, canning, pictures, sewing, etc. to be entered. I remember standing in a line waiting for someone to enter what seemed to all she could find at home to bring when I had to be at the Little Miss Marcus in a few minutes. I won’t have to worry about that this year as I am not going to be able to enter anything with no arms to carry them.
My biggest problem with Little Miss Marcus is when she is chosen, all the girls scatter even though they have been asked before hand to go outside for a picture. I hope I don’t have this problem this year as I cannot chase them down!
I hope we don’t get much rain if it does rain. Zachary brought home two big tubs to take to the attic as there is a leak in one part of the roof. I don’t have the money to do any new roof. I certainly don’t want him going out on the roof as high up as it is to fix it. It certainly hasn’t been a good year for me. I don’t play the lotto so my chance of any money from there will never be. Has anyone heard who was supposed to have gotten the Powerball from Casey’s? The person will have all kinds of people suddenly being a relative!
Remember in your thoughts and prayers those families/friends that have lost loved ones to death; have their lives changed; have health problems some of which are terminal; are still struggling to make ends meet even they have a job; and help those who desire “wants” are more important than “needs” that prestige isn’t everything and be with those who are still trying to shorten the distance between family/friends to build a bridge instead of a wall. Count your blessings! I will leave you with this quote from Marcus Tullius Cicero (106 B.C.-43 B.C.) Roman statesman: “The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living.”
