Things haven’t changed since day 1 (July 2). The pain medicine I’m on does not work the full 6 hours—only half that time. Things have to get better as I don’t know how much worse they could be.
I appreciate the calls I’ve gotten with a message left. I’m not answering the phone as it is hard to hold on to it with two fingers. I received a card and enclosure from a sister of a girl I graduated with with this girl friend ‘s name also included. Your names brought back some memories on a day when I needed something good to think about and I thank you! Those were the years!
Steve had hernia surgery on Tuesday morning but went the night before to take my place at the school board meeting at Remsen. There has never been a meeting with that many items to discuss/approve that I can remember. When he came back to Marcus following surgery, Thelma Gravenish’s house was gone. That house had a lot of history. Many years ago, the owner then, her nephew sent her diary to the Marcus News to have then give it to the Marcus Public Library. The Library never received it. If anyone has this, please consider giving it to the Library or the Historic Society.
The same day Steve got home (Wed.), he called me to say he was going to an elephant program at the Library. I questioned if he was feeling well enough to go. It was an interesting program given by Anna Schmadeke and Kay Ogren.
To the person/persons who have asked to bring food to us—I have had to decline. I am on a special diet due to only having two fingers to work with. Can you imagine what a problem I would have if something didn’t agree with me? I don’t even want to think about it! The other two in the household finally decided to go on one that suited them. They don’t want to be tempted. So, any food is declined, but thank you for thinking about us.
Not being able to eat anything brought back a memory of my Dad’s mother, Grandmother Juhl.
When the Danish church would have Mission Sunday, people would bring pot luck for dinner. Grandmother and her brother would go to her place northwest of Marcus to eat their dinner as she didn’t trust the pot luck food. They would leave Grandpa Juhl with 3 boys and her sister-in-law with 8 kids with food she didn’t trust! I think she had a touchy stomach and didn’t want to have any problem at church.
I want to thank Steve for covering for me during the week at various activities around town and Bethany for typing. I let her off easy this week as I have been typing with 2 fingers and suffering the consequences afterwards. It took me 4 hours to type a page and a third. Hopefully next week will be slower with news. I’m going to let her finish these personals.
Remember in your thoughts and prayers those families/friends that have lost loved ones to death; have had their lives changed, have health problems some of which are terminal; are still struggling to make ends meat even though they have a job; and help those who desire “wants” are more important than “needs” that prestige isn’t everything and be with those who are still trying to shorten the distance between family/friends to build a bridge instead of a wall. Count your blessings! Thanks to everyone for get well phone calls, cards in mail, and ones from the store. We all very much appreciate all well wishes. I will leave you with this quote from Simone Biles, “Always work hard and have fun in what you do because I think that’s when you’re more successful. You have to choose to do it.”
