Girls Track Team Competes at West Sioux
By Rachael Beelner
On Thursday April 22, the MMCRU High school girls track team competed at Hawarden. This was one of the most challenging track meets that they had to face this season. They were the only 1A school competing against seven 2A schools. The teams that participated in this event were West Lyon, BHRV, KPWC, MMCRU, South O’Brien, Central Lyon, Sheldon, and West Sioux. Placing first was West Lyon with 134.888, second place was South O’Brien with 107.444, Third was BHRV with 100.444, fourth place was Central Lyon with 89.444, fifth place was KPWC with 75.888, sixth place was Sheldon with 60, seventh place was MMCRU with 10.888, and last place was West Sioux with 10 points.
During this event there were some technical difficulties. The West Sioux high jump bar broke. This is sad because Emily Dreckman and Hannah Neddermeyer couldn’t help the team out by getting points in this event. That is why some of the team points are not whole numbers (they divided the points up.)
Coach Lonnie Boekhout said, “We were the only 1A team at the meet in Hawarden, so the competition was really tough. The meet started out kind of rough for us when they canceled the high jump because they couldn’t find a bar. We were hoping for two place winners there. We did have some PRs with Alyson having season bests in both the 1500 and the 3000. Natalie also had a PR in the 1000, while the 4 X 100 had a season best also.”
