Celebrate the Legacy!
Celebrate the Legacy! September 17-23 is Constitution Week!
Pilot Rock DAR Chapter donated the book “My Name is Dixie, Designer of the Iowa Flag “ to the Alta-Aurelia School district to promote Iowa history education. They also donated a poster to Kate Westphal to assist her in preparing for Constitution Week.
In 1955, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress with a resolution to set aside September 17-23 dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The annual celebration was established when signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on August 2, 1956. NSDAR is committed to encouraging study and educating the public about the Constitution and the men who framed it.
Pilot Rock DAR Chapter is encouraging all area residents to take time during Constitution Week September 17-23 to learn more about this important document and celebrate the freedoms it gave us.
One way to learn more about the Constitution is to check out the Cherokee County Unite FaceBook page starting September 17. Pilot Rock Chapter will be posting daily questions. The first person to comment with the correct answer will have their name put in a drawing at the end of the week for a US Flag.
One way to celebrate the Constitution Week is to participate in “Bells Across America” . All you do is ring bells on September 17 at 3:00 PM . No bells, no problem set your cell phone alarm to a bell ring tone. Bell ringing was used to announce that the delegates to the Constitutional Convention had reached agreement on the Constitution.
Ring out in Celebration! As citizens, it is our responsibility to celebrate and keep our ancestors’ legacy alive! The United States Constitution stands as a testament to the tenacity of Americans throughout history to maintain their liberties, freedoms, and inalienable rights.
