2022 Marcus Community Fair Parade
No matter how hot it was, there still was a Saturday Fair Parade. Because the street south of the Farmers State Bank was the street for the Street Dance, the parade route went to Railroad Street and then south on Main Street. Dave Stevenson was announcing from a place near the Old Panhead.
Well, it is 4 p.m. and the Parade is arriving! The first thing we saw was the Marcus Police vehicle and followed by a Marcus Ambulance. This year the Shriners’ came in 11 cars. Later there was a motorcycle (of sorts) that did a Shriner turn-a-bout.
Claude Grey’s wrecker made it to the parade. Schmillen Construction is celebrating 45 years and was pulling one of their big equipment. A flag was on the back of this entry.
There was an Allis Challis tractor, a John Deere tractor, as well as another brand of tractor. Marcus Lumber had an entry. The MMCRU Football Cheerleaders were on a float. The Little Miss Marcus girls were on a float. The Floyd Valley Hospital was present. The Cherokee County Sheriff showed up.
There were two reunions—Fred and Bonnie Wilkens and the Raetz/Mayer reunion. Both were on flatbeds. Francis Hinspeter was in the parade also.
Farmers State Bank, State Savings Bank, and United Bank of Iowa had entries. There were motorcycles. Cherokee Regional was there. Marcus Fire Department. Pilot Rock Chapter from Cherokee was entered. An entry from the Goodburn Post was in the parade. People cheered when this one went by. Reuter Party Bus was there just in case someone needed a ride home!
There were seven class reunions on floats. Classes of 1972, 1987, 1997, 2002, 2007, 2012, and 2017.
Bringing up the last of the one half hour parade were John Deere lawnmowers and one Grasshopper!
It might have been hot but people were still attending. There were people still sitting on lawns and visiting with others well after the Parade was over.
