Unconditional Surrender
The Marcus Public Library has received funding from Humanities Iowa, a private, non-profit state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities to host a presentation called Unconditional Surrender: A visit with Ulysses S. Grant by speaker Pete Grady at 6:30 pm on June 2 at the library. A cultural resource since 1971, Humanities Iowa offers many cultural and historical programs and grants to Iowa’s communities.
Unconditional Surrender: A Visit with Ulysses S. Grant introduces audiences to the 18th President of the United States and the man whose strategy and leadership defeated the Southern rebellion and preserved the Union. The program is written and performed by Peter J. Grady of Marshalltown Iowa.
The show uses period music, photographs, cartoons, maps and drawings to explore Grant’s successes and failures in military and civilian life, and provides the audience with a new understanding of Ulysses S. Grant, called by author H.W. Brands “The Man Who Saved the Union.”
The program is free of charge and all are welcome.
