Michael Rupp

On Monday, March 28th, the MMCRU Speech program had one individual, senior Michael Rupp, participate in Individual All-State Speech. This event is held by the IHSAA and took place in Cedar Falls on the UNI campus. In order to be selected for All-State, the participant must have a 1 rating from each of the three judges at the state performance. Additionally, two of the three judges must give a recommendation for the individual to go to All-State. Michael Rupp met those qualifications in the Improv section at the State performance in Moville. Due to this, he was able to participate in All-State in Improv, which is a 3-5 minute performance of two random characters. Michael received an All-State banner and medal for his participation.
Michael’s performance was around 10:30 AM at the University of Northern Iowa. Speech coach Mr. Alex Wimmer and a few other speech members came along to watch and support him. Before performing his improv, Michael drew for two characters and a situation. He drew “an angry husband”, “an airhead”, and “selling your garbage” for his Improv. According to Mr. Wimmer and the others there, the room was constantly laughing and very engaged with his performance. After his performance, Michael received his awards and the individual speech team watched a few more sessions before departing for home.
Michael Rupp gave his thoughts, “It was quite an honor to add another All-State banner to Mr. Wimmer’s wall. I would like to thank Mr. Wimmer for all of his inspiration and dedication to the MMCRU speech program.” Speech coach Mr. Wimmer was very happy with the outing, “Overall I thought Michael did an outstanding job! He was able to engage the entire audience with this thoughtful story line and the comedy he presented. A true representation of his talents and MMCRU. He received great comments and the day was an awesome way for him to end his high school speech career! Congrats again Michael!” Individual All-State speech is the final contest for the MMCRU speech team this year. Congrats to Michael for making All-State, and congrats to all speech participants throughout the year.
