By Mekhi Armstrong
This week for senior spotlight, we will be featuring Regan Peters. Throughout her high school career she’s enjoyed involvement in a variety of activities such as volleyball, archery, speech, dance, piano, 4-H, FFA, Iowa Junior Beef Breeds Association, Iowa State 4-H Council, Royals Impact Leadership Team, and Plymouth County Fair Royalty. She has been fortunate enough to have received a great number of awards for her work in the classroom, her FFA chapter, 4-H club, and sports. These awards include lettering in dance for 4 years, archery for 3 years, band for 3 years, and volleyball for 2 years. Regan also earned her Iowa FFA Degree, as well as becoming the president of the MMCRU FFA chapter. She earned the Beef Project Proficiency Award, she was President of the Union Vikings 4-H Club, President of the Plymouth County 4-H Council, and a 2-year member of the Iowa State 4-H Council. Her awards won on the county and state level include the Iowa Beef Project Area Award, “I Dare You” Award, and Senior Spirit Award, Plymouth County Agriculture Award, Outstanding Senior Award, and Achievement Award. As a part of the Plymouth County 4-H Livestock Skillathon and Quiz Bowl team, her teams were named champions of both contests on the state level. They were chosen to compete in the national competition in Louisville, Kentucky. They ended up placing 7th in the Quiz Bowl and 11th in the Skillathon.
Regan’s favorite memories from high school include the numerous FFA trips, being packed into Suburbans, and cracking jokes until their stomachs hurt, as well as having the power in the school go out, only for it to come back on as we all drove out of the parking lot.
Some things Regan likes to do outside of school is work on livestock, spend time with family and friends, and relax. Some advice she would like to give the underclassmen is to try as many things as possible, find your thing and excel at it. Don’t spread yourself too thin, because if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right. Some jobs she’s had throughout high school include working as a CNA at Heartland Care Center, as well as a pianist at Grace Lutheran Church. Regan’s favorite school lunch is crispitos. Her greatest accomplishment in high school is getting 2 gold stars in Mr. Wimmer’s AP US History class. One of her biggest pet peeves is when people start a sentence, and are either cut off or just never finish their thoughts.
Regan lives with her dad: Chad, mom: Shelli, and brother: Mason. Her favorite song is “To Us It Did” by Mitchell Tenpenny. Her favorite movie is Parent Trap, and her favorite band is Zac Brown Band. Regan’s greatest fear is disappointing people that had a high expectation of her. Her favorite year of high school is Senior year, because it has been the most flexible and laid back, she’s been able to enjoy more and spend time with friends. After high school, Regan plans to attend South Dakota State University for nursing. What Regan would like to accomplish in life is to get a good job right out of college, and earn enough money to have a comfortable life. Regan would like to be remembered as that person who could always be relied on when something needed to be done.
