MMCRU Has Blood Drive, Saves Up to 96 Lives
By Brayden Dirks
On Wednesday, January 12th, the MMCRU High School ran a blood drive for the students through LifeServe Blood Center. LifeServe has a vehicle with all the necessary equipment needed to give blood. They park the vehicle out front on the day of the blood drive, and students come in and give blood to save lives.
Before the blood drive happens, students are encouraged to sign up for a designated time slot. Out of the whole high school student body, thirty-four people registered to give blood. Thirty-one of those people were eligible to give blood. Eligibility to give blood is determined by several factors such as iron amount, hemoglobin levels, weight, previous sickness, and potential side effects from the blood donation process. Those thirty-one donors donated a total of 32 units, which is 500 milliliters of blood. These 32 units have the ability to save up to 96 local lives!
There are always three blood drives done per year at MMCRU, and two have already been done. The next blood drive at MMCRU will be March 9th. Community members are welcome to donate!
