Program for Women Who Manage Farmland Offered January 19 in Holstein
Grant-Funded Free-to-Attend Program is Designed to Support Women Landowners
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host “Women Managing Farmland: Today and Tomorrow” on Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Cobblestone Inn in Holstein.
The program is designed to better serve and meet the needs of women farmland owners and managers.
“In reality, women own nearly half the farmland in Iowa,” said Alexis Stevens, a farm management specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach, who will lead the program. “Their decisions play a vital role in Iowa agriculture, and this program aims to provide an opportunity for education and networking.”
Stevens said that the program will cover topics such as farmland leasing, conservation practices and programs, and farm transition.
“In addition to myself, we will also hear from Kitt Tovar Jensen, a staff attorney with the ISU Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation,” Stevens said. “And there will be time for questions and networking.”
In addition to providing education, Stevens said she hopes to discover additional educational needs from the audience.
“Similar to a focus group, I’ll be asking questions and hope for feedback to help guide our future educational offerings in this area,” Stevens said.
Thanks to grant funding, this program is completely free to attend, but preregistration is requested by Jan. 14 to ensure proper space, materials, and a light supper. Preregister to Krista at 712-364-3003 or Jen at 712-225-6196.
