Senior Spotlight

By Brayden Dirks
This week for the senior spotlight we will be showcasing Darley Carrillo. Darley lives in Remsen with her parents, Byron and Claudia Carrillo. She also has three siblings: Byron, Ashley, and Stephanie. After high school, Darley plans on attending Iowa State University majoring in Children and Family Consumer Science.
Darley has been in several activities throughout high school including basketball cheer, track and field, and football cheer. She has lettered every year for both football and basketball cheer, and has lettered her freshman and junior year for track. Darley was also part of the distance medley team in track that broke the school record her junior year. She says her best accomplishment is getting the school in the distance medley and being captain of the basketball cheer squad. Carrillo says that her favorite year of high school was senior year because it has been the easiest year and is closest to graduation. Darley mentioned that her favorite memories from high school were sitting out in the hallway before school with friends and setting up for prom junior year.
In her free time, she likes to hang out with friends, workout, go out to eat, and shop. Darley also has two jobs, as she works as a Resident Assistant at ParkPlace Estates Assisted Living and a cashier at Walmart in LeMars. She says her biggest pet peeve is when she says something wrong and someone corrects her for it. Her biggest fears are clowns, snakes, and spiders. Her favorite school lunch is taco soup, her favorite song is “People Watching” by Conan Gray, and her favorite movie is Hacksaw Ridge.
Darley’s biggest piece of advice to underclassmen is to always try your hardest even when you want to give up. She wants to remembered as someone who always checked up on someone if they were feeling down. Darley hopes to be a family physician someday, which is her dream when she’s an adult.
