Staff Spotlight
By Matthew Kollbaum
This week’s Staff Spotlight is Mrs. Dawn Roberts. She teaches third grade in Marcus. This will be her first year teaching at MMCRU. She grew up in Marcus, went to college at NCC for her generals and Buena Vista University for a degree in Elementary Education. She wanted to be a teacher because after years of working as a Paraprofessional she found a passion and an ability to help students achieve their learning goals that she never knew she had. She has always loved the challenge of figuring out how to make all her students understand what they need to learn.
She says her favorite part about teaching is” The connections I have made with all my students. It has not made a difference if I have worked in their classroom or not, if I was their one-on-one Paraprofessional or not, or if I was their student teacher or not. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the students in public and hearing, “Hi, Mrs. Roberts!”
Some advice she would give to students is “Be kind, be honest, and work hard.” We also asked her what was something she wished that someone had told her in high school and she said “There are so many things I wish someone would have told me when I was in high school, but I probably wouldn’t have listened. That’s the point though, there are so many things that we have to learn as we go. Mistakes are useful, as long as you learn from them.”
