This week for Senior Spotlight we will be featuring Preston Astidias. Preston lives in Remsen with his dad, Johan Astidias, and his mom, Keri Astidias. He has four siblings: Allison, Carter, Isaac, and Ayden. After high school, Preston plans to enroll in a university and major in computer engineering.
Preston is known for his involvement in school activities, leadership in sports, along with his passion for sports. He is involved in baseball, basketball, football, National Honor Society, Royals Impact Group, and track. Astidias has lettered in baseball twice, in basketball twice, football once, cross country once, and track once. He received a state award in basketball called the Team First Award, and he received an All-War Eagle Conference Award in his junior season. He has also received academic honors, such as getting Top 5 in the class every year. Preston says his best accomplishments were getting Top 5 and lettering in every sport he’s participated in. His favorite memory from high school was winning volleyball in homecoming his junior year. Junior year was also his favorite year of high school as it was pivotal in his education.
In his free time, Preston likes to golf and learn new things. He has worked at the Golden Pheasant for the last five years while washing dishes and cooking food. His second job was at Bill Ruba Cabinetry & Construction in Remsen, where he helped stock lumbar and cut boards before they were used. Preston says his biggest pet peeve is other people cheating on homework, and his biggest fear is losing passion. His favorite school lunch is crispitos and his favorite movie is “The Incredibles.”
Preston’s advice to underclassmen is to not just do the fun classes but also do the important classes. He wants to be remembered as someone who does the right thing and has academic success. Astidias says he hopes to accomplish a master’s degree in computer engineering someday.
