Altering Traffic Flow

Looking west on Highway 3. Construction has begun on the north side, including some new concrete already poured.

Iowa Department of Transportation officials approached the Marcus City Council in 2025 with a plan to help alleviate dangerous traffic conditions near Marcus. The plan was to change the Highway 3 intersection at 143/L36 to a roundabout instead of a north/south stop sign. Several severe traffic accidents resulting in injury or death have occurred at the interesection. Construction began in early April. Specific details of the construction project and final result are unknown at this time to City officials. Invitations to the preconstruction meetings were not given. A request by The Marcus News was not answered at press time. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
Traffic control and construction equipment are moving into place on the north side of Highway 3 looking east.
