To Concerned Citizens of Iowa:
Politics is a dirty game, but does it have to be? We should be used to it by now, but thankfully we’re not so numb to its tactics that we can still find them distasteful, disgusting, immoral and even surprising.
A case in point is the most recent mailer received on behalf of Iowa Senate candidate Shane Bellefy. It headlines “Northwest Iowa Needs a Fighter – Not Another Des Moines Politician.” How can anyone have the gall to imply that Senator Lynn Evans (Mr. Bellefy’s opponent) is not a fighter? Senator Evans was one of the “Dauntless Dozen” who had the courage and integrity to force a vote on House File 639 regarding property rights and eminent domain.
The candidates who cannot differentiate themselves or their policies from those of their opponents shouldn’t be running. Instead, they make things up.
I’m also disappointed in the Northwest Iowa Review. With so many gubernatorial candidates, why in every issue on the topic do we see “Feenstra” in the headlines and often a photo of him as well? It can’t be because the name Brad Sherman is hard to spell, or that Randy is the most photogenic. Staff at The Review are very capable of unbiased, good journalism. Show us, please.
Whether or not you see their names and faces repeatedly in print or TV ads, know that there are candidates who are truthful and upright: State Senator Lynn Evans, candidates Brad Sherman for governor, Abby Maas for state auditor, Jim Carlin for U.S. Senate, and more.
