Marcus City Council Meeting
Regular Meeting of the City Council was held March 9th, 2026, at 5:00 pm with Mayor Bunt presiding. Council members present: Ebert, Schmillen, Whited, Edwards, Jenness
Motion by Ebert, seconded by Jenness to approve Consent Agenda: City Council Minutes, Bills, Treasurer’s Report, Res #26-09, “Transfer of Funds”, Res #26-10, “Resolution Setting Salaries for Appointed Officers and Employees of the City of Marcus, Iowa”, Res #26-11, “A Resolution Approving the Lease of a Postage Meter Through One Office Solutions”, Class C Retail Alcohol License for the Old Panhead Restaurant & Liquor License. Ayes: Ebert, Jenness, Schmillen, Whited, Edwards. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Motion by Schmillen, seconded by Edwards to open public hearing on Proposed Property Sale of 113 S Locust St. Ayes: Ebert, Jenness, Schmillen, Whited, Edwards. Nayes: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Jenness, seconded by Whited to close Public Hearing. Ayes: Ebert, Jenness, Schmillen, Whited, Edwards. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Fire Chief Clay Leavitt asked the Council to approve 3 new members to the fire department: Jon Nelson, Morgan Wiesert, and Jen Huff. Fire Department will than have 24 full-time and 5 junior members. Last year, fire department responded to 153 calls, 22 were fire.
City Clerk Report – Reviewed Annual Audit, in contact with Power Solutions to install tornado siren and will continue to communicate with them.
Public Works Report given by Clerk. Pool caulking will be done by Public Works this spring.
Chief Flikeid gave the report of arrests and the concern of kids’ electric scooters.
Dave Christensen gave nuisance report.
Motion by Schmillen, seconded by Jenness to approve Dave sending a letter to Ag State regarding old elevators after July 1st. Ayes: all. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Attorney John Hines gave updates on citations he has issued.
Motion by Schmillen, seconded by Ebert to approve offering Dan Ohlendorf a contract for Economic Development. Ayes: all. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Motion by Schmillen, seconded by Ebert to approve setting special meeting March 18th at 7:15 am for Economic Development Consultant Contract. Ayes: all. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
Motion by Ebert, seconded by Whited to approve Res. #26-12, “Resolution Authorizing Sale of Property”. Roll Call vote: Ebert, Jenness, Whited, Edwards. Nayes: none. Abstain: Schmillen. Motion carried.
n by Jenness, seconded by Schmillen to approve Res #26-13, “Resolution Authorizing the Hiring of Temporary Part-Time Public Works Employees for Pool Preparations”. Ayes: all. Nayes: none. Motion carried.
