Wolverines Comeback Fizzled
The Tuesday night game at Marcus brought the South O’Brien Wolverines to the Marcus Court. The 4-6 Wolverines were there to challenge their 7-5 conference neighbor. The opening quarter showed a strong performance by the host Royals putting up 18 points agains the Wolverines’ 9. The Royals continued to advance their lead on the second quarter, but with a smaller spread. Halftime score was 30-19 in favor of the Royals.
South O’Brien regrouped for the 3rd quarter. The outscored the Royals by 13 points, changing the momentum. End of quarter score was 38 Wolverines to 36 Royals. The final game period would tell the story. The Royals’ defense upended the Wolverines’ momentum. The Royals outscored the Wolverines in the 4th quarter 20-9 giving the teams a 56-47 final in favor of the Royals.
Lindsey Einck, senior led South O’Brien scoring with 18 points. She was a favorite stop of the Royals and drilled an admirable 8 of 12 free throws. Senior Reese Farquhar followed with 12 points and 2 of 5 successful 3 point efforts. Junior Abby Woodall scored 6 points from 3 point territory.
Farquhar pulled 10 rebounds with 3 offensive and 2 steals. Einck worked the boards for 7 grabs and 4 under the Wolverine basket, also with 2 steals. Woodall also played a strong role in possession. She grabbed 5 boards with 1 second chance.
Junior Tia Tentinger was the Royals’ top scorer Tuesday. She put in 21 points. Senior Lana Florine scored 11 and junior Chloe Alesch gave the Royals 10 more points.
Alesch topped possession stats. She grabbed 10 rebounds including 7 offensive boards and a steal. Florine grabbed 8 boards with 2 under the Royals’ basket. She also took 3 steals. Tentinger’s 4 rebounds with 3 second chances showed a strong possession instinct. She took 6 steals.
