Trinity Christian Hits Marcus Hardwood

Girls basketball against the Trinity Christian Tigers played at Marcus on Tuesday January 6 moved the Royals to a 4-5 record. In the opening period the Royals outscored their guests by 10 points and expanded that lead by halftime by additional 10 points. The halftime score was Royals 27, Tigers 7.
The second half was better for the Tigers. They outscored their host in the third, 10-9. They stayed close in the 4th but were again outscored. Game final was 48-25.
Royals scoring leaders were junior Chloe Alesch with 16, junior Tia Tentinger dropping 12 and senior Sadie Youde with 5, hitting a 3-pointer.
Alesch led possession battles with 7 boards including 2 offensive and 3 steals. Royals’ junior Brielle Lux followed with 5 takedowns, 3 being second chances. Tentinger boarded 3 misses all 3 offensive. She also stole 5.
Sophomore Auby Boogerd from Trinity scored 10, adding 12 boards, 8 offensive with 2 blocked shots and 3 steals. Juniors Keely Groenweg and Ali Van Der Brink added 3 points each and both from outside. Whitney Westra, sophomore grabbed 10 boards, 3 of them second chance grabes. She also showed defensive grit with 2 blocked shots and 4 steals. Junior Kierra Heynen boarded 7 missed shots with 5 from her own basket. She also marked a blocked shot.
Boys Rout Tigers
The Royals opened the boys game against the Trinity Tigers on Tuesday January 6 by doubling the visitors’ score, 30-15. The second quarter expanded the Royals’ lead by 8 more points. Half time score for the boys was MMCRU 58, Trinity Christian 25. Royals’ defense held the Tigers to single digit scoring in both periods of the second half. The game final was 94-42 with the biggest lead gained during the 3rd quarter.
Senior Wyatt Alesch dropped in 24 oints with a pair of 3-pointers. Kamden Bork, senior scored 20, hitting 10 of 11 attempts. Bork also boarded 5 wit h2 offensive and took 2 steals. Senior Michael Schmillen scored 14. Junior Josh Peterson led rebounding with 9 over overall. He tood down 5 for Royal second chances. Junior Eli Harpenau boarded 5 and grabbed 2 steals.
Trinity’s senior Luke De Jong led scoring with 8 and 6 rebounds, 3 offensive. He also blocked 1 shot and stole 2. James Postma, senior, also scored 8. He was followed by junior Bryce Uittenbogaard with 7 points. He went 1 for 1 in outside attempts. Uittenbogaard also boarded 6 misses. Senior Mattias Vis boarded 4 with a steal.
Royals win over Sibley-Ocheyedan
The Royals basketball team spent Friday night at Sibley, defeating Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals. The girls doubled their host’s scoring in the opening quarter, 16-8. Halftime score sat at 29-20 for the Royals. SO gained a basket in the third period and tied scoring in the 4th. The Royals claimed an away victory with a 49-42 final.
Junior Chloe Alesch topped the individual scoring with 20 points. She also led in rebounds, 13/8. Tia Tentinger, junior, contributed 8 points for the Royals with 3 boards, 2 offensive and 13 huge steals. Riley Groves, senior put in 6 points and 4 boards, 3 offensive and 3 steals.
Leaders for the Generals were Freshman Lucy Heitritter scoring 15 points. She scored 9 points from outside. Aleah Marco, sophomore scored 11 including 6 points from afar. Senior Becca Woelber scored 5, grabbed 6 boards with 2 offensive. Woelber also blocked two and stole 1. Junior Olivia Lopez led rebounds with 14 including 8 from the Generals’ basket, and a steal. Hailey Gacke tood down 7 boards, 4 offensive and a steal.
Friday Night at Sibley Gets Another Win
The trip to Sibley to take on the Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals on their court netted the Royals a win taking the boys to an undefeated 9-0 record. The Royals’ defense held the Generals to single digits in 3 of the 4 quarters giving the teams a 72-32 final.
Leading scorers were senior Michael Schmillen, 14; senior Eli Schlenger hit 3 of 4 outside attempts for 9 of his 13 points. Senior Kamden Bork sunk 12 points.
Schlenger, along with junior Josh Peterson led rebounding with 4, but getting 1 offensive grab. Schlenger took 2 steals, Peterson 4. Board claimed 3 boards, a blocked shot and 4 steals.
S-O’s senior Gavin Stnton and junior Alex Kruger put 9 points each on the board. Stanton scored on 2 of 9 outside attempts. Senior Dawson Kreykes scored 7. Senior Carter Vos boarded 7. Senior Eric Kleinwolterink boarded 4 with 1 at the Generals’ basket. He also blocked 1. Kreykes boarded 4 wit h3 being second chance grabs.
