Applications Being Taken for Cost Share Funds to Establish Cover Crops
The Cherokee County SWCD is currently taking applications for cost share assistance to establish cover crops on eligible crop land. Cover crops are planted late in the summer or fall to provide vulnerable cropland with a protective cover to help reduce soil erosion and improve water quality and soil health.
Producers establishing cover crops for the first time could be eligible for a $25 per acre incentive payment on 120 to 160 acres – depending on the program they are approved under.
Those producers that have already tried a cover crop system, could apply for a $15 per acre payment for up to 160 acres, if funding is available after first time producers have been approved.
Anyone that is interested in these cover crop cost share programs is encouraged to call the Cherokee Soil & Water Conservation District Office (712) 225-3769 for details on these programs.
