Sierra (DeBoer) Smolders opened for business in mid-October. Sierra married in August 2024. Smolders is an uncommon surname from the Netherlands, and fits the business theme perfectly.
Sierra worked for O’Brien County Ag Supply for three years. During her most recent annual reviews the inevitable question – where do you see yourself in 10 years, her dream of a bakery and restaurant came up. She was always bringing food for the farmers, baking and celebrating milestons like birthdays. Her ten year vision met with big support from her bosses.
The long vacant former convenience store and restaurant was available. She and her husband bought it in July and began remodeling. The inspection was approved on October 13th. Food was delivered on the 14th and the doors opened on the 16th.
Smolders’ Brew features flavored specialty coffees, smoothies, Lotus drinks with fruit flavors, baked breakfast good and other breakfast items with a daily dinner special. She offers assorted pastries. Cinnamon rolls are made daily. There are always cookies and quick breads. She is currently developing her own sour doughs. A drive through window was added on the west side. Call in orders are taken or scheduled for a pick up time. Dinner specials vary between comfort foods and a lighter fare.
Sierra makes her own flour from organic wheat berries. She refers to it as “crunchy” flour. It is whole grain, the bran remains. It makes good soft flour with a bite. She also grinds a variety of grains.
Smolder’s Brew is open Monday through Saturday 6:00am to 2:00pm.
