70 Years Ago -1955
Bob Roberts, Jr. has bought a lot just east of the Ray Juhl residence here, and a new house at Sioux Center, which he will move to the lot in the near future.
Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Douvia are the parents of their first child, a daughter, born Wednesday evening, October 26 at Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars, she has been named Diana Lynn.
Winners of the Halloween costume parade were: Cheryl Sclenger, 1st for overall costume; Dean Drefke, 1st for best clown costume; Thelma Dorr, 1st in the miscellaneous class.
Lloyd Barnes underwent surgery Saturday at Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars. Mrs. Barnes is convalescing nicely.

The Marcus Eagles ended their 1960 football season last Friday night with a 21 to 7 victory over Correctionville, giving them a 3 and 5 mark for the season.
Mrs. G.A. Wiedemeier was admitted to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sioux City and will undergo surgery this Thursday morning.
Mrs. Ruth Peters, widow of the late Ray Peters, who many years operated an automobile agency and garage in Marcus, died Friday evening, October 28 in Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars after several weeks illness. Her funeral will be held Tuesday, November 1 at Grace Methodist Church in Marcus.
Seventy six percent of the electors in the Marcus Community School district approved the issuance of $758,000 bonds for the purpose of constructing and equipping a new high school at the special election held last Thursday.
Mrs. Jacob Dixsson was honored Sunday at a dinner and supper in her home in observance of her 75th birthday.
60 Years Ago -1965
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Peavy will be honored by their children on their 25th wedding anniversary with an open house at Peace Lutheran Church parlors in Marcus on Sunday, November 7.
Miss Loreta Gavin, 88 a lifelong resident of Marcus, passed away on Saturday, October 30 at Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars, following an illness of several months.
Only 72 voters appeared to cast their ballots in the Marcus municipal election and there was no contest of an votes. Mayor John Dunn received 69 votes, councilmen Loren Stowater and Bob Ames each received 70 votes, John McKernan 69, and Harold Bolton, 63, Wylie Satterlee, treasurer received 66 votes.
Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Mayer returned home last Tuesday from a four week with their daughter and son-in-law, and visited other friends.
Football injuries for 1965 were: Keith Bentz, broken wrist; Brian Sand, leg injury; Allan Sand, brain concussion; Paul Bentz, separated elbow and fractured knee; Rocky Bork, blood on the knee; and Gene Polson, back injury.
55 Years Ago – 1970
Mr. and Mrs. David Means are the parents of their first child, a seven pound daughter, born Saturday, October 24 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee. She has been named Janet Marie.
John Holmes was taken to the surgical center at Iowa City Tuesday for further skin grafting on his leg.
Navy Fireman, Charles Jenness, son of Mr. and Mrs. Buster Jenness of Marcus, graduated form Engineman School at Navel Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois.
Joelene Ferrin was chosen to play All -State Orchestra and Laurie Treinen in All-State Band.
50 Years Ago -1975
The Marcus Eagles became Little Sioux Conference champions by defeating the Eastwood Red Raiders 42 to 6 last Friday night.
Mr. and Mrs. George Koth, Tom and David were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Art Wilson in Schaller.
Girl’s basketball started last Monday with Mr. Martin as head coach and Mr. Benton as assistant coach.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Miller of Longment, Colorado, are the proud parents of a baby girl, Angela Marie, born Thursday, October 23 and weighed eight pounds, seven ounces.
Vicki Dunn of Waverly was a weekend guest in the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Dunn.
45 Years Ago – 1980
Mr. and Mrs. Roger Braun of Marcus announce the arrival of a daughter born September 25 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee. She weighed eight pounds, three and a half ounces and has been named Heidi Lynn.
Charles Cave was crowned king and Jody Moser was crowned queen of the 1980 homecoming festivities.
Diane Sand, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Sand, has attained the highest individual honor available to Iowa High School musicians by being selected as a member of the 1980 All-State Band.
Robert Clarence Pearson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Pearson was honored with a dinner Sunday, October 20, after his baptism.
Judy Glackin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Glakin, has been selected as a member of the varsity cheerleading squad at Wayne State College.
