105 Years Ago – 1920
Mayor Walter Corbalt resigned his official postition as mayor of Marcus at the regular meeting of the council Monday evening.
Frank Geringeris engaged in the construction of a barn on his farm. It will be 48×56.
100 Years Ago – 1925
Bans for the marriage of Mabel Toomey, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J.C. Toomey, to Arthur Gaber, of Remsen, were announced Sunday at Holy Name Church. The wedding will take place Wednesday, July 22.
A.J. Thompson, Bill Bass, Harry Baumgardner and Bob Gordon departed Sunday on a fishing trip and hunting trip.
In a wide territory northwest and northwest of Marcus, Tuesday night’s storm played havoc with prosperous looking fields of grain and corn and the damage from wind and hail is estimated to be thousands of dollars.
90 Years Ago -1935
A pretty summer wedding was solemnized at Holy Name Church Monday evening when Dorthy Dalton, daughter of James Dalton, became the bride of Romain Treinen, of Remsen.
Services for Frank Geringer, a resident of Marcus Township for 51 years, were held at the Christian Church in Marcus Sunday afternoon.
Bernard Seeger, local harness dealer, who a short time ago completed the construction of a ver unique bird house, has placed it on display in a window of a Sioux City store and has received many offers from its use as a display feature.
85 Years Ago -1940
A deal was closed Saturday by which the seven room house at the corner of Amherst and Locust streets, owned by Mrs. Mary Treinen, was sold to Carl Reed.
Mr. & Mrs. L.J. McGivern will leave Friday for Chicago to attend the national democratic convention, which convenes there Monday. Mr. McGivern was named by the state convention at Des. Moines as alternate delegate to the convention and will occupy a seat in the group reserved by the Iowa delegation.
A colt without front legs was born on the farm operated by Harold Dorr July 3. In every other way the colt appeared to be normal.
80 Years Ago – 1945
Hope Marie Tschill, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Eugene Tschill, became the bride of Harris Parker, of Lakeland, Florida June 29 in the Methodist Temple in Seattle, Washington.
Mr. & Mrs. Darrell Miller are the parents of an eight pound son, Bradley Alan, born July 7 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee.
John Kestel passed away July 7 at Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars at the age of 90 years.
A seven pound two ounce son, Ronald Lee, was born Thursday, July 5, to Mr. & Mrs. Harry Ogren at Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars.
Edgar Hagey, Ph M3/c and Henry Franch, Jr. M/3c, recently met at Pearl Harbor.
75 Years Ago -1950
Mrs. Mary Birch, 80 resident of Marcus for many years, passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars.
A lovely wedding took place at the Methodist Church in Archer, Tuesday, June 27, when Gail Akeson, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. James Akeson, of Archer, became the bride of Donald Steffen, son of Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Steffen.
The following new teachers will appear at Marcus Public School next year, Ruth Faulkendar, of Pierson, will teach first grade; Marilyn, Nannenga, of Hawarden, has been secured for second grade; Verla Schoening, of Peterson, will teach fifth grade, of Paula Schnepf, of LeMars, will teach junior high.
An impressive ceremony was performed Sunday, June 25 when Rita Satterlee, became the bride of Carlton Harker, son of Mr. & Mrs. Vincent Harker of LeMars.
On Tuesday, July 5, 1910 just 40 years ago, a young fellow named Michael Francis Joynt took over the practice of Dr. C. O. Reed in the town of Marcus.

Mrs. Pete Heinis received word that her brother, Fred Adler, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Monday morning in a hospital following an operation.
Dennis Peavy was honored on his ninth birthday Monday afternoon when Richard Wittkopp, of Carroll, Bruce Rowen and Mark De Vries were present to help him celebrate.
Mr. & Mrs. Ralph McConnell and Mrs. Duane Faul and sons were dinner supper guests Sunday in the home of Mr. & Mrs. Harry Neir.
Forty members of the Healy family held a reunion at the home of Vane Healy honoring Mr. & Mrs. Robert Stratton on their birthday.
Little Hazel McMahan of near Cleghorn, lost her life in a highway accident about two miles west of Marcus on Highways 5 and 3 early Wednesday evening.
A wiener roast was held at the Marcus park Wednesday evening in honor of Mr. & Mrs. Howard McConnell and Charles who are leaving soon to make their home in Phoenix, AZ.
Mr. & Mrs. Ab Anderson were honored on their 20th wedding anniversary Friday evening when a group of friends and relatives brought a supper to their home.

Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Carey will hold open house at Speelmon’s Steak house in Cherokee on Sunday, July 31 in observance of their 25th wedding anniversary.
Twenty neighbor families of Mrs. Fred Baade honored her and her family at a farewell picnic supper at the Marcus shelter house Monday evening.
Mr. & Mrs. William Evert moved Sunday into the home they recently purchased from Mr. & Mrs. Melvyn Greene.
Miss Loretta Garvin was a Sunday dinner guest of Mr. & Mrs. Lovell Roberson.
Willis Wagler, of Wagler Motor Company, of Marcus, recently attended a Ford truck sales workshop in Waterloo.
Mrs. Lloyd Barnes was taken to Sacred Heart hospital last week where she is hospitalized with a hip injury sustained in a fall at her home.
Mr. & Mrs. Bernard Gravenish are the parents of a son born July 8, he has been named Darrell Mathew.
Ben Beck entered the hospital of Rochester, Minn., and will undergo a medical check up.

Mrs. Gerald Meylor was the winner of the pair of men’s shoes given away Saturday evening at Nagle’s Apparel.
Mrs. Delbert Joslin was admitted to Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee Friday.
Mrs. Mary Cronin, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. William Cronin and Donald Treinen, son of Mrs. Marion Treinen all of Remsen, were united in marriage Thursday evening, July 17tH.
A miscellaneous shower was given Wednesday evening, July 14 for Miss Frances de Hoyos, bride-to-be of Mr. Curtis Gettner, in Trinity Lutheran Church parlors.
The regular meeting of the Tilden tillers 4-H Club met July 12 at the home of Steve and Chuck Ogren.

Sheila Whealon, of Marcus has earned recognition on the Dean’s List for academic excellence at Creighton University, Omaha.
Mrs. Joe Alesch, Sr. returned home Saturday morning after a weeks hospitalization in Floyd Valley, LeMars.
An eight pound four and a half ounce daughter was born to Mr. & Mrs. George Wheeler on Tuesday, July 14 at Sioux Valley Hospital, Cherokee.
Joe Heileger, 72., of Sheldon, died July 8 after a long illness. He was the father of Mrs. Albert Bilsland, of Marcus.
Dave Nelson and Jeff, Merle Mead and Connie, and Fred Hoover and Jim left Saturday evening on a fishing trip to Canada. They plan to return Thursday.
50 Years Ago -1975
Cindy Dorr, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Dorr, and a junior last year in the Marcus High School., won the Spanish scholarship of $500 to travel to Spain to live there for approximately one half months with a typical middle class Spanish family.
The Lage family picnic was held Sunday at the shelter house in the Marcus City Park
Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Carstens, Cherokee, announce the engagement of their daughter, Sally Ann, to David John Stodden, son of Mr. & Mrs. Carl Stodden, Marcus.
Kathy Lowe, of Maxwell, Iowa was hired as the new mathematics teacher for the high school.
Mrs. Richard Booth, of Davenport was a Wednesday afternoon caller in the Harold Schlenger home.

Mr. & Mrs. John Woodall, Marcus, will observe their 25th anniversary on Saturday, July 27 with an open house at Mr. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, rural Marcus.
Mr. & Mrs. Fred Bindner are the proud parents of a daughter born Wednesday, July 9 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee.
Kris Sand is a patient at Rochester Methodist hospital.
Janet Peterson, bride elect of Don Drefke will be honored with an open miscellaneous shower on Saturday, July 29 at Peace Lutheran Church, beginning with a dessert luncheon.
Barbara Jean Fry, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John Fry, Marcus became the bride of Donn Jay DeVelder, son of Mr. & Mrs. Marion DeWelder, of Oelwein, on Saturday, July 28.
