Nadine Ruth Faust, daughter of Henry and Rosa (Westphal) Luhrs, was born March 20, 1936, in Primghar, IA. She was welcomed with love by her six older siblings – five sisters and one brother and was made a child of God through the Sacrament of Baptism at Hartley, IA. She learned at an early age that faith, family, and love would provide the foundation for a wonderful life. Nadine will always be remembered for her warm hugs and for saying, “I love you!”
While she was growing up, Nadine held several jobs. By the age of five, she would get herself up and ready so she could spend the day helping a neighbor who was in a wheelchair. As she grew older, she worked for a farm couple doing housework and tending to their children. She also waited on tables at a local dance hall. Although her childhood was challenging, Nadine loved school and made learning a priority. Even during her younger years, she always found ways to develop wonderful relationships and spend time with the people she loved.
When Nadine was in 8th grade she met the love of her life, Robert Faust; they dated all through high school. Following her graduation from Calumet High School, Nadine and Robert were married on October 17, 1954. They made their home in Paullina, IA where Nadine worked for the Paullina Times and Kenneled Eggs for the first three years of their marriage. Over the years, they have built five homes in Paullina and made many lasting memories together.
Nadine always lived her life rooted in faith and faced life’s challenges with a positive outlook. She enjoyed attending Bible Study where she found her favorite verse – Philippians 4:13… “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” This verse guided her in life and especially in 1978, when she was diagnosed with cancer. With her strong faith and the support of family and friends, she fought and won her battle with cancer.
One of Nadine’s favorite questions was, “You got time for a quick game?” She loved playing cards with family and friends, and we all know she won more times than not. She also enjoyed fishing, especially on family vacations to Ottertail Lake in Minnesota. Her best-loved holiday was Thanksgiving, with stories being told around the table while enjoying a wonderful meal followed by several “hot” games of cards. She truly cherished her time spent with family and friends.
On Friday, November 21, 2025, Nadine passed from this life to her heavenly home. She now joins loved ones who have gone before: her parents, Henry and Rosa Luhrs; and her six siblings. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 71 years, Robert W. Faust of Paullina; her children: Kim (Jeffrey) Rupp of Sioux Falls, SD; Kent (Kris) Faust of Spirit Lake, IA; and Keri (Wesley) Fiddelke of Clear Lake, IA.; nine grandchildren and their spouses; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
