MMCRU Semi-Final

The MMCRU Royals dominated the Class A State Semi-Final, shutting out the West Sioux Falcons 28-0, at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. Quarterback, Eli Harpenau, led the charges with four touchdown passes, three of them to standout receiver Michael Schmillen, who racked up 147 yards on just three catches. The Royals’ defense was relentless, forcing turnovers and holding West Sioux’s high-powered offense scoreless, limiting them to 13 rushing yards. This victory makes MMCRU’s first trip to the state championship since the school’s merger, capping an undefeated season at 12-0.
MMCRU Dress Up Days

This week the MMCRU Football Team went to the state championship game. The school wanted to celebrate with different dress up days for the students to participate in. On Monday the students wore pajamas with the theme “Dreaming of a Championship.” Tuesday’s theme was “Stand on Business,” students were to dress up for this day. On Wednesday the students and faculty wore Royal gear with the theme “Show your Royal Pride.” They also celebrated with a pep rally on Wednesday as a send off for the football team. For the game Thursday, our fans dressed in black for “Black Out.” Friday was “Proud to be a Royal,” and we wore Royal gear again! This is a great way to get everyone involved and fans excited for the game.
Royal Celebration

This week the MMCRU Royals High School had a pep rally to celebrate the football team making it to the state championship at the UNI-Dome. The elementary (Marcus and Remsen) and middle school came as well to join in on the fun. This celebration was also open to the public. The cheerleaders performed different cheers, the school song, and even had games to play with the football players. The football players and cheerleaders left Wednesday evening to go to Cedar Falls in preparation for the big game.
Teacher Spotlight

Ms. Melissa Young is a Physical Education teacher at MMCRU High School. She manages her classes by talking to students about life for the first 5 minutes of class. Young is able to motivate her students by being relatable through conversation and by using quotes. She is also one of the girls’ basketball coaches. Young’s favorite exercise is hiking in the mountains with her family. Some of her hobbies include; spending time with family, going to sporting events and attending concerts.

Brea Nicks is a junior at MMCRU High School. She is involved with different shop classes and enjoys doing so. She is currently working on a cabinet and has been for 4 months. Nicks explained that she has made a few mistakes along the way. She also shared that she “learned to do it right the first time!”
