Free Throw Challenge To Decrease Food Insecurity
The basketball season will soon be firing up, many of us will find ourselves heading to our local gymnasiums to catch a few games.
Once again, the Cherokee County Farm Bureau is combining their support with the Iowa High School Athletic Association in efforts to decrease food insecurity with a free throw challenge to support area food banks.
The challenge is quite simple; the Cherokee County Farm Bureau will donate one dollar ($1) for each free throw point scored by the girls and boys varsity basketball teams during home games throughout this year’s basketball season. The Cherokee County Farm Bureau is excited to be partnered up with the teams from MMCRU, The Cherokee Washington High, and the Alta-Aurelia schools.
The importance of Free throws cannot only determine the outcome of a game but can draw attention to the level of food insecurity throughout out county unfortunately being at an all-time high.
A total of $763 was raised last year during the Free Throw Challenge with the monies distributed to four local food banks.
