J.F. Collins sold 80 acres belonging to Christopher Flanagan to Patrick Brady in Marcus Township. The consideration was $9,800.
Fire broke out in the Olson Blacksmith Shop Wednesday evening from an exhaust pipe.
The E. Turner family moved last Friday into their new residence in the south east section of the city. Mr. & Mrs. Roy Turner will occupy the house they vacated.
100 Years Ago – 1925
Mr. & Mrs. A.H. Peavey were delightfully surprised on their 25th wedding anniversary when a large number of relatives and friends came with well filled baskets to help celebrate.
Mrs. K.D. Bancroft and Mrs. Frances Flaherty announce that they will open a tea room in the Hipschen Building on Main street, November 1.

A beauty shop will be open on Saturday in the rooms under the Farmers State Bank by Edna Brown of Cleghorn.
Mr. & Mrs. Merle Weicht and family left Monday morning for their new home in Alexandria, Pennsylvania, where Mr. Weicht will operate a farm.
Dr. G.R. Hobson has taken over the chiropractic practice of Alice Delaney, which he purchased recently and is now in his office over the Farmers State Bank.
Kenneth Lee, son of Mr. & Mrs. Matt Schmillen, is on the road to recovery after a serious illness of pneumonia.

The Misses Lucille Barnes and Catherine Garvin, both of this city have been chosen to sing in the Bel Cant Glee Club at Iowa State Teachers College in Sioux Falls.
Peter McLaren, who claims the wood chopping championship of the world will stage a log cutting contest and demonstration Tuesday, October 8.
Funeral Services for Henry Liggett, who passed away last Thursday following an illness of several weeks, were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon, September 29.

The elevator purchased by Melvin and Harold Dorr at a point about 30 miles north an dmoved to Marcus, is being placed on the foundation.
A three pound can of Spry is selling for 49 cents at Treinen’s Market this week.
Robert Dorr passed away October 17 at his home.

A group of 200 people welcomed Rev. and Mrs. Joseph Castle, the Methodist minister and his wife, and the school faculty. Monday evening in the church parlors.
Funeral service for Leona Seeger were held Wednesday morning at Holy Name Church.

Services for Mrs. Mary Walsh, 80, of LeMars were held in Holy Name Church in Marcus Tuesday morning.
Gary Fischer son of Mr. & Mrs. Herman Fischer, celebrated his sixth birthday Friday.
Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Roethler are the parents of a daughter born Wednesday, October 4 in Scared Heart Hospital in LeMars. She has been named Mary Ann.
Mrs. Bertha Bearling, 81 a pioneer resident of Marcus passed away suddenly at her farm home Sunday afternoon.
Junior Frank has accepted the position of manager of the Marcus Coop Lockers, made vacant by the resignation of Cecil Dunn.

James Whealon, assistant cashier of the Farmers State Bank of Marcus was taken suddenly ill Friday afternoon, suffering severe nasal hemorrhages.
Mr. & Mrs. Oscar Ekblad left Wednesday to make their home at Los Angles, California. They have been Marcus residents since 1915.
Funeral services for Chris Flanagan, 85, a widely acquainted resident of Marcus and a former businessman and farmer were held Monday at Holy Name Church.
About 60 poultry raiser from this community attended the egg clinic at the Municipal Building Tuesday evening.
Mr. & Mrs. Vernon Donner are the parents of a boy born Wednesday, October 19.

Charles Meehan, 62, a lifelong resident of Marcus, died suddenly early Tuesday morning at his farm home north of Marcus.
Local contest winners of the Kent name the pig contest were announced by Sand’s Seed. They were: Ray Hansen won the set of Melmac dinnerware, Melvin Mayer the Dog-O-Matics and Joe Cronin the grill.
Jim Galigan, who has been seriously ill at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in Sioux City for the past two weeks, is improving.
Donald Goodburn, who has purchased the 40 acre tract which includes the farmstead in the quarter section farm two miles north of Larrabee, which belongs to Lloyd Barnes.
Ann Braun, senior at Holy Name received a letter of commendation for her rating in the National Merit Scholarship Examination. She placed in the top 3%.

Miss Linnea Jean Nelson, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Harry Nelson is one of 10 students selected to the Coloratde State College synchronized swimming team the SHARKS.
Mr. & Mrs. Albert Seel returned home Sunday evening from a two weeks visit with S/Sgt. And Mrs. Kenneth Richmann and family at England AFB, Alexandria, Louisiana.
Word from Grinnell College is the Roger Bryant, 1965 Marcus graduate is first string fullback on the freshman team.
Mr. & Mrs. Warren Weber and family were supper guests Sunday at Mrs. Weber’s parents Mr. & Mrs. Bill Gottsche of Remsen.
Gary Willin, a senior at Marcus Community School has been honored with letter of recommendation for his high performance on the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test given last spring. He scored in the top 2% of the 1966 high school graduates.
55 Years Ago – 1970
Mrs. Lyle Schlenger arrived home Thursday by ambulance from St. Vincent’s hospital in Sioux City. Mrs. Schlenger underwent spinal surgery and will be confined to her home for three months.
Dale Carver and Jean Franklin were crowned king and queen of the Marcus homecoming at the pep rally held last Thursday night.
Tom Rassel of Cleghorn is in Sioux Valley Hospital at Cherokee with two broken legs, a result of the snowy and slippery weather last Friday.
Mrs. Ina Krekow’s new model Chevrolet was badly damaged by fire Tuesday.
Mr. & Mrs. Ronald Klingbeil announce the birth of their first child, a seven pound daughter born Wednesday, September 30. She has been named Amy Sue.
The Marcus Eagles homecoming game with Remsen Union was played Monday night. The Eagles lost to Remsen 20-14.

Mr. & Mrs. Rockie Bork of Klamath Falls, Or are parents of a boy born October 10 weighing seven pounds, nine ounces. His name is Shane Robert and he has two brothers, Kellie and Chad, to welcome him home. Grandparents are Mr. & Mrs. Bud Bork and Mr. & Mrs Wesley Hirschman.
Msgr. A.W. Behrens, former pastor of St. John’s Catholic Church at Bancroft, Iowa has been appointed pastor of Holy Name Parish, Marcus effective October 8.
A band of female magazine saleswomen swarmed down on Marcus Monday and in a matter of an hour or less had high pressured about $300in magazine sales. It took about 15 minutes for people to realize they were swindled. Steve Geringer, Marcus police officer, caught the gals before they could leave town.
Aruthur White, 73 a former Marcus resident, passed away October 9 in a hospital at Medford, OR.
Mr. & Mrs. Melvin Mayer hosted a birthday dinner for Mrs. Carl Kuehn on Sunday, October 12 in their home.
45 Years Ago – 1980
The Iowa Better Trucking Bureau awarded Ray Juhl of Marcus with a plaque and ribbons for 50 years of trucking at the Pioneer Trucking days at the Marina Inn, South Sioux City.
Mr. & Mrs. Jim Pearson of Marcus are the proud parents of a son born October 5 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee. He weighed seven pounds and has been named Robert Clarence.
Friends, neighbors and relatives gathered at the Elmer Theisen farm October 1 to help combine 170 acres of beans after Elmer was injured in an accident.
The Marcus Eagles won at Hinton Friday night 6-0 with the only score of the game coming late in the fourth quarter.
