Homecoming 2025 • South O’Brien Wolverines take on Sioux Central Rebel’s

The Sioux Central Rebel football team traveled to Paullina to take on the South O’Brien Wolverines, in what was a homecoming game for the opponent. Sioux Central scored first with a 28 yard field goal by Sawyer Hollesen in the 1st quarter. The Rebels scored again with an 27-yard Owen Mills pass to Chase Heuton and the PAT good by Hollesen to make the score 10 – 0.
On the Sioux Central kick-off, the Wolverine player Brody Van Beek ran the kick back for a touchdown and the PAT was good. With the score 10 – 7 going into the 2nd quarter, Sioux Central turned on the offense and got two touchdowns before the half while SOS scored just before the break. Michael Buettner scored a TD on a 3-yard run with a 2-point conversion by Mills and Max Wittmaack scored on an 11-yard run. South O’Brien scored on a pass from Brady Riedemann to Van Beek. The PAT was no good and Sioux Central led by the score of 24 – 14 at the half.

The 2nd half saw Mills complete a 27 yard pass to Hollesen for the score in the 3rd with the kick good. Max Wittmaack scored twice in the 2nd half with a 4-yard TD catch from mill sin the 3rd and a 58-yard scamper to the end-zone in the 4th quarter while the Wolverines were held scoreless and the Rebels won the game by the score of 44 – 14.
“It was a good win for us tonight. We knew going in that #12 Van Beek was a good receiver for South O’Brien. He made some very good catches during the game but we limited him and that was what we needed to do,” remarked Coach Brandon Goodchild.
Offensively, the Rebel team had a huge game with 533 yards including 50 through the air as Mills went 2 for 3 with one TD to Heuton. Gavin Casey had the other reception for 23 yards. The team had 64 carries for 483 yards and five touchdowns. Leading the way was junior Max Wittmaack with three 311 yards and three TDs. Buettner had 11 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown while Mills carried the ball 7 times for 46 yards and Perry Spooner had two carries for 15 yards. Hollesen had two carries for seven yards and some younger players got into the game in the 4th quarter with freshman Regan DeJager carrying the ball five times for 19 yards and sophomore Declan McCarty getting two carries for eight yards.

“Our line did a nice job controlling the line of scrimmage. Our run game was very good tonight and that was a result of our line doing their job,” said Coach Goodchild.
Defensively, Sioux Central had 42 tackles and was led by Buettner with six, Koen Glover and Austin Kolb with 4.5 each and Connor Brown with 3.5 tackles including two solos. Kolb had four solo tackles and Glover had three solos. Brown had one fumble recovery and Glover had an interception which he returned 78 yards.
Joseph Wilson had one punt return for seven yards, Perry Spooner had two kick-off returns for 11 yards and Carter Smith returned one kick.
The Rebel kicking game saw Hollesen kicking one 28 yard field and three of five PATs. Ben Zeisler kicked off five times for 163 yards and Kase Glover had three kick-offs for 159 yards. The Rebel team did not have a punt attempt in the win.
“A big goal for us this week was to get better and I felt we did that,” commented Coach Goodchild. “A lot of season left and we still need to take one week at a time.”
The Rebel football team, now 2 – 3 on the year, will take on Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on the home field on Friday, October 3 while the Wolverines, 1 – 4 on the year, will play West Sioux on the road.
