MMCRU Royals Win over Sioux Centrals Rebel’s during Homecoming
The Sioux Central Rebel football team had a tough job ahead of them when they played host to the #2 rated MMCRU Royals for the Homecoming game on Friday, September 19. The 1st quarter was scoreless before the Royals came to life and scored four touchdowns in the 2nd. The Rebels scored in the quarter and the point after try was good, making the score 7 – 28 at the half. MMCRU scored twice in the 3rd quarter and Sioux Central got one final score in the 3rd. The Royals won by the score of 42 – 13.
Junior quarterback Eli Harpenau threw 7/11 attempts collecting 123 years and a TD throw. Harpenau also scampered a carry for a score. Sophomore Ayden Miller carried 11 attempts gaining 59 rushing yards. Miller carried it to the house twice. Senior Kamden Bork made a good target Friday night at Sioux Rapids. He caught 4 for 62 receiving yards. None were taken to the house. Other rushing TDs came from junior Luke Kintigh on a 16 yard run and senior John Schmillen from a 49 yard run. One of Schmillen’s 2 receptions scored a TD.
Defense was tough Friday night. Senior Wyatt Alesch, senior Parker Glassmaker and senior Brandon Dreckman each had 4 solo tackles. M. Schmillen had 3 with senior John Schmillen and senior Lukas Peterson each got a pair of solo tackles. Dreckman and J. Schmillen each marked a tackle for loss.
Dreckman forced 1 fumble with sophomore Cody Schmillen, Kintigh, senior Brayden Dunn and J Schmillen each recovering a fumble. Michael Schmillen intercepted 1. Dreckman also scored a 2-point conversion to help the team.
