Could a Land Trade be in the Works?
By Mari Radtke
Doug Sickelka was on the Sutherland August 4 agenda to open discussion with Council about the possibility of trading property. Sickelka owns a small piece of ground on South Beech Street next to a property once believed to be known as “The Arboretum,” Lot 3. The Arboretum was donated to the city to be kept as an arboretum and required to be returned when it was no longer maintained for tree growth and perservation.
Mr. Sickelka did not attend the council meeting, so no discussion was held. Council will hear his interest when he attends.
The police report included apprising Council that discussions with Paullina about their policing coverage will be held. Chief Brent Koppe also noted that requests for service from Plains Area Mental Health got no response recently.
Several Community Fund grants were reported. Awardees were the Museum, the Fire Department, the Park, Library and Little League.
The Fire Department cautioned Council that “exhorbitant” replacement costs were coming up. Most costs are for PPE for the volunteers.
Necessary action for street closures and liquor licenses were approved for Labor Day activities Friday August 29 through Monday September 1.
