Welcome Neighbors to “Your” Newspaper
It’s a new week and it is full of surprises. We know that the reaction will be mixed, but we do hope each of you will lean toward the upside.
We’ve struggled over the years, particularly in the most recent 2 or 3 years, to find enough staff to do all of our newspapers their full justice. The time has come that it was necessary to make some tough choices.
Our choices brought Richard and I to feeling that we made decisions that did the most good for the most people. For Marcus, that means a larger subscription base and a larger opportunity for advertising customers and to offer a different, wider potential customer.
The first tough choice was how to continue to provide news to our subscribers. It was no longer possible to have all 4 newspapers printed. We chose to go online with 2 of our newspapers, both of our O’Brien County newspapers. Since then, “The Hartley Sentinel” has taken our subscribers for “The Sanborn Pioneer.” We are appreciative of that transfer and feel short order subscribers will be very comfortable with it.
We split our southern O’Brien County subscribers. “The Marcus News” winning our subscribers with Paullina and Primghar mailing addresses.
For our “Marcus News” subscribers that means some news about the neighbors. The “News” will carry news of Paullina and Primghar and the surrounding area going forward, including Meriden, Cleghorn and Remsen.
We hope you enjoy learning about your neighbors. Be prepared for changes in presentation and content. Feel free to email or call 712-230-1396 with suggestions. We are grateful to each of you for your support and in welcoming new.
Richard and Mari Radtke
