MMCRU boys win big in season’s first two games
MMCRU tipped off the boys basketball season with a pair of convincing wins. On December 3 the Royals overwhelmed Harris-Lake Park 66-25 at Remsen. MMCRU put up even more points December 6 at Hartley in a 74-31 drubbing of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn.
The Royals harassed Harris-Lake Park into committing 36 turnovers. The 23 MMCRU steals included four from Brayson Mulder and three each from Jace Colling and Wyatt Alesch. The Royals also blocked four shots, two by Alesch and one each by Mulder and Kamden Bork.
Multiple Royals got into the scoring act led by Mulder with 13 points. MMCRU got nine points from Lucas Braun, eight from both Alesch and Brandon Dreckman, six from Eli Schlenger five from Bork, four each from Michael Schmillen and Michael Peterson, three from Eli Harpenau and two apiece from Mason Hill, Max Schnepf and Josh Peterson. Schmillen and Clint Staab each recorded four assists.
MMCRU shot 43 percent (28-of-65), including 4-of-17 from beyond the arc. The Royals were 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Their rebounding leaders were Mulder and Alesch with five apiece and Michael Peterson, Bork and Dreckman each with four.
The 74 MMCRU points against HMS came on 55 percent shooting (33-of-60). The Royals were 5-for-13 from three point range and a surprising 3-for-12 from the foul line. Dreckman was the leading scorer with 21 points, followed by Alesch with 13, Mulder with 11, Michael Peterson and Braun with seven apiece, Schmillen and Schlenger each with four, Bork, Harpenau and Josh Peterson with two apiece and Colling with one. The 22 assists featured six from Schmillen.
Again the MMCRU defense was active as the Hawks were guilty of 30 turnovers. Royals with three steals were Mulder, Alesch, Dreckman and Michael Peterson. Hill blocked a shot. Mulder was the team’s leading rebounder with four.
