Monday evening beside agenda that was approved by one vote there were 4 other—City of Marcus Tax Abatement for Ronald and Jean Erickson Revocable trusts, Tax Abatement for Jordan’s Meat Market, City of Marcus Tax Abatement for Steve and Denise Phillips.

Brian Flikeid, Police Chief, was part of the Amber Alert call. The suspect and boy were picked up on Steven Schuetz’s grandfather’s farm—between Marcus and Remsen.
On 1/9/2024, Jonathan Schreier, 42 years old of Marcus was taken into custody on a warrant issued for his arrest on charges filed by the Marcus Police Department for: False Reports to Public Entity, a serious misdemeanor. Schreier is accused of reporting to 911 that his girlfriend, who has no rights to his children took them without his consent. Schreier also reported that he had made multiple efforts to contact his girlfriend with no success. Law Enforcement responded utilized surrounding agencies and technology to tract the suspect and children’s location. Once located text messages were turned over to law enforcement which confirmed Schreier’s version of events was false and that his girlfriend had the children for several days, with his knowledge and permission.
On 1/19/2024, Peter Nee, 35 years old of Marcus was arrested after a reported Domestic Abuse incident reported to the Marcus Police Department. Nee was charged with: Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding the Breathing of a Pregnant Person, a class D Felony. During this incident the Marcus Police Department received assistance from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Health and Human Services.
On 1/30/2024, the Marcus Police Department along with multiple other agencies responded to a request for assistance regarding the pursuit of a vehicle wanted in connection to an Amber Alert issued earlier in the day. This pursuit covered portions of Woodbury Co, Cherokee Co, and Plymouth Co prior to the suspect crashing the vehicle into a ditch east of Remsen. The suspect fled the vehicle armed with a rifle and with the child subject to the Amber Alert in tow. During a lengthy standoff a perimeter was established confining the suspect within a section. Area residence were evacuated while negotiators attempted to negotiate the surrender. After failed negotiations tactical teams descended on the suspect, rescued the child and took into custody Brandon Duong.
On 2/2/2024, Kendall Frescoln, 43 years old of Marcus was arrested by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for her arrest issued by the Marcus Police Department. On 2/5/2024, Jeffery Monier, 42 years old of Marcus was arrested by the Marcus Police Department on a warrant issued for his arrest regarding the same incident. Monier and Frescoln are accused of conspiring together to deposit a forged check into Monier’s bank account. Both have been charged with Conspiracy to Commit Forgery, a Class D Felony.
The Marcus City Council met in a special regular meeting Tuesday February 13. Council members present were Bunt, Ebert, Jenness, Whited, Edwards, and Schmillen. Absent: No one.
