110 Years Ago – 1914
Last week a deal was completed by Frank Jenks became a partner and half owner of E.W. Turners Panatorium.
Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Imhoff celebrated their silver anniversary last Saturday.
Miss Winnie Toomy has been obliged to give up her work in the telephone office because of illness. Ida Cox is taking her place.
Thirteen carloads of stock was shipped to Chicago from Marcus last Saturday night.’
100 Years Ago – 1924
Miss Anna Brady left Monday for Chicago where she will spends several weeks studying beauty culture and will open a beauty parlor upon her return.
Slight relief from the cold wave which sent thermometers down as law as 32 degrees below zero, was felt here Sunday.
95 Years Ago -1929
The weatherman set the winter record for coldness Monday when the thermometer went down to twenty below.
Mr. & Mrs. Ned Bork are parents of a daughter born January 5.
Mr. & Mrs. Jones and tow children have recently come to Marcus from Sutherland and are living in the Olson house.
C.S> Fulton who has worked for Uncle Sams faithfully for fifteen years will retire February 13.

Frank Burch, Kenneth Schorg, Forrest Marshall, Glen Metcalf and Roland Satterlee took part in the bowling tournament at Holstein Sunday.
The children in the grade and high schools are preparing for their semester examinations.
The Alex Miller family has moved to the Raun house recently vacated by the Vance Marquis family.
The Rev. A.M. Peterson of Marcus took delivery of a new 1939 Chevrolet sedan purchased from the Ament Chevrolet Company.

Jake Kelsch and Mrs. Authur Buyer were honored with a farewell party by the Rebekah Lodge Monday evening in the Odd Fellows Hall.
Mrs. Selma Pearson was honored on her birthday anniversary January 5 with a surprise party.
The Marcus High School Eagles will meet the strong Larrabee team here in a double header Tuesday night, January 18 at 7:30 o’clock.
Word has been received stating that Lr. Francis Brady son of Mr. & Mrs. James Brady has been awarded the air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster.
Born to Mr. & Mrs. James Quinn a daughter, January 10 at Waterloo. Mrs. Quinn is the former Jean Norris.
75 Years Ago -1949
Last rites for Mrs. Mary Quinn 77 who died last Wednesday morning at the St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City were held Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. from the Holy Name Church.
The Marcus High School Eagles lost two games the past week.
Mrs. Mollie McPherson of Tyndall, South Dakota, a sister of Mrs. Katie Smith of Marcus passed away Monday evening.
A farwell party was held Tuesday evening at the Municipal building in honor of Mr. & Mrs. Louis Pingel who are moving to their new home in Sioux City.

J.C. Means was named mayor of Marcus at a special meeting of the city council Monday evening.
The Marcus and Meriden girls teams will meet this Thursday evening in a semi final game of the girls county tournament at Cleghorn.
A change in the management of the Marland Theatre was announced this week by the new operators, Dick Dr Vries and Charles Nielsen.
Don Schmillen has purchased the butchering equipment and business of Karl Hahn and is now offering this community a service of that type.

An opening meeting to discuss building and financing a new fire station will be held on Monday evening January 12 at eight o’clock.
The Holy Name “Kittens” a rope jumping drill team made up of Holy Name girls made its debut at the school’s homecoming December 28.
Mr. & Mrs. Glen Simons of Larrabee and Richard Kuchenreuther of Havelock were killed last Saturday evening when the Simons’ car being driven by Mr. Kuchenreuther struck a train on a crossing in the Osceola county town of Allendorf.
The season’s first farm sale in the community will be that of Chelsea Shaffer, set for Tuesday, January 13. They recently sold the farm which is located three miles south of Marcus on Highway 143.

The Marcus Community school again will be host to the Northwest Iowa Girls Conference Tournament.
Carol Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Miller has pledged in Sigma Alpha Iota professional music sorority at Drake University, Des Moines for students who have achieved music and scholastic requirements.
The Marcus Community School Eagles last another attempt to get their second victory of the season at Washta Tuesday evening losing 69 to 48 to Willow.
Mr. & Mrs. Floyd Rassel are the parents of a son born Monday, December 20, 1963 at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Mrs. Ray Galigan 68 of Marcus died Sunday, January 5 at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars after a long illness.
Holstein handed the Marcus matmen their second defeat of this season by a 33-15 margin January 4 Marcus had a dual record of 5 wins and 2 losses.
Mr. & Mrs. Marion Sohl of Millard, Nebraska announce the arrival of their first child, a girl born Monday, December 23.
Harry Williams of Aurelia is in St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City in critical condition following a crash on Highway 3 just across the Plymouth County line.
Mr. & Mrs. Mark Roethler announce the arrival of a daughter on December 24.
