The weather has let us know that Fall has arrived and Winter can’t be far behind. It was Wednesday when there was lightening and hail that came shortly after 1 p.m. Then the wind arrived. More than one flag has been left in a tattered shape.
The Marcus City Council met for a short meeting on Monday, Oct. 10. Depending on the weather, there is to be some street repair done by VanderPol either this fall or next spring. A burning ban is in effect from October 15 to November 15 OR longer if necessary.
Halloween is on Monday, October 31. Downtown business places will be waiting for the trick or treaters after school and after 5 o’clock until 8 o’clock for homes. If there isn’t an outside light on, don’t go to that place to trick or treat. Don’t go to places you where you don’t know the person. It would be a good idea for an adult to accompany the costumed character. With the Fentanyl drug having colorful pills, hopefully we won’t have any “sick” person who would hand out this to a trick or treater. CHECK out the candy, etc. before you attempt to eat it.
It was 8:28 a.m. on Wednesday morning when I used the new oven for the first time! I made Betty Crocker’s Blue Berry Muffins. I found out that it bakes browner in the back so the item will have to be turned around before being done. Otherwise, it is a pleasure to not have to worry if the oven is going to go the whole baking time or shut off in between times!
It was a fast trip in delivering the S.C. Journal on Wednesday morning. The papers didn’t come in until after 6 a.m. because of the press breaking down.
The MMCRU football team won their game on Friday night over the team from Sidney, Iowa. Congratulations to them!
Keep Kent Carlson in your thoughts and prayers. He is still in a Sioux Falls hospital.
Caleb and Shania (Rassel) Buren are parents of a son, Bentlee John-Floyd born October 12 at a Sioux Falls hospital.
Friends and relatives celebrated Morgan Rassel’s second birthday on Saturday at Cleghorn Community Center. Her parents are Kiel and Lindsey Rassel. Thanks to the person who helped me with my gift for her.
Have you ever gone to check out groceries and found out you had no money with you? This happened to me Saturday after coming home from Cleghorn. When I went to write out a check, I found no checkbook! Of course, there were other people behind me waiting to be checked out. I had it in my other coat that I wasn’t wearing. I declare that it took a month of Sunday’s for Bethany to go home and find it!
I’m making this column short this week in order to hopefully have room for the Villisca Axe Murders story.
Remember to keep in your thoughts and prayers those who have lost loved ones to death, have had their lives changed, are experiencing health problems with some being terminal, are trying to make ends meet even though they have a job, encourage those jobless to find a job, and be with those who are still trying to shorten up the distance between friends/family by building a bridge instead of a wall.
I will leave you with this quote from Alexander Pope (1688-1744), English poet: “To err is human; to forgive, divine.”
