Kevin “Kip” Murray Dorr
Kip went to his eternal rest on Thursday, February 10th at his home surrounded by his family after a 3 year long battle with cancer.
“Kip”, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, was born on August 27th, 1962 in Marcus, Iowa, the son of Richard (Dick) and Donna Dorr. Following his high school graduation in 1980 Kip attended Iowa Lakes Community College and Westmar College, where he wrestled. He received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Education from Westmar.
Kip took his teaching passion to California and taught science and PE and also coached several different sports over his 30 years of teaching. It was during his teaching tenure that he met his wife, Beth, at a math conference! They married in 2001 and had just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.
Kip loved playing and watching golf. He fulfilled every golfer’s dream with a “hole in one” in 2001. Kip enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and looked forward to the “Iowa Wave” at the end of the first quarter of every home game. Kip was also a Kansas City Chief fan and was thrilled when they won the SuperBowl in 2020. He was a grill master, famous for his “stuffed burgers” and steaks and took great pride in his garden, sharing his tomatoes and peppers with others. He loved making his Mud Ball cookies from Mom’s recipe at Christmas time. When he wasn’t grilling or watching sports you could find him with a big bag of Twizzlers taking long drives along the California coastline. His wit and humor will be greatly missed.
Kip will be lovingly remembered by his wife Beth, his daughter Caitlyn Estes Dorr and step children, Zachary, his wife Erin, and Amy Fuhr. His brother, Lenny and sisters Angie and Andrea and their families. In-laws, aunts and uncles and cousins, including first cousin, Steve Ebert who was like a brother to him.
A memorial celebration is tentatively planned for June 11th at the Marcus Golf Course.
