Duane A. Nielsen 78 of Knoxville Tennessee, passed away on February 26, 2022. Duane was born to Art and Mildred Nielsen of Marcus on December 9, 1943. He was proceeded in death by his parents, and one sister, Mable Mortenson of Marcus.
After graduating from Marcus High School in 1961 Duane attended and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He then went to work for Alcoa Aluminum where he worked until his retirement in 2004. While at Alcoa Duane and his family lived in: Davenport Iowa, Lafayette Indiana, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Maryville Tennessee, Swansea Wales and Dusseldorf Germany.
Duane is survived by his wife of 56 years Sarah and two children, Karen (Tom) Babits of Souix Falls South Dakota and Eric (Tracy) Nielsen of Knoxville and his grandchildren: Helen Babits, Anne Babits, Leo Babits and Lauren Nielsen. He is also survived by two sisters Joan Tucker of Indianapolis Indiana and Deloris McDaniel of Yuciapa California.
Duane and Sarah’s favorite pastime was traveling the world. Duane was a soft spoken gentleman and a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
There will be no burial as his wishes were to be cremated.
