IMPORTANT ABSENTEE VOTER CHANGES FOR CITY/SCHOOL ELECTION ON NOVEMBER 2
Cherokee County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections, Kris Glienke, has announced that recent changes in legislation will affect absentee ballots for the November 2, 2021 City-School Election.
The first day that absentee ballots may be mailed to voters is October 13. The last day the County Auditor may mail an absentee ballot is October 18.
All voters must fill out an Absentee Ballot Request form completely, sign and date prior to receiving a ballot in person or by mail. All requests for ballots to be mailed must be received by the Auditor’s Office by 5 p.m. Monday, October 18th.
The County Auditor cannot mail Absentee Request Forms to voters unless requested by the individual. Forms are available at the Cherokee County Courthouse and at the Iowa Secretary of State’s web site at www.sos.iowa.gov.
All voted absentee ballots must be received by the County Auditor by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 2, 2021. Postmarks or bar codes printed on ballot envelopes will no longer make a ballot valid if they are received after Election Day. (With exceptions for Uniformed and Overseas or Safe At Home individuals.)
Absentee ballots may be cast in person at the Cherokee County Auditor’s Office at 520 W Main St., Cherokee, IA, during regular office hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning October 13 through November 1st.
