Royals Win Saturday Tournament at West Monona
By Michael Rupp
The Royals traveled to Onawa September 11 for the yearly West Monona Varsity Volleyball Tournament. The Royals took home first place in the tournament last year, and came on top for the second year in a row. The Royals first game was against the Logan-Magnolia Panthers. The Royals lost the first set to the Panthers, but took the second and third sets to move on. After that the Royals could not be slowed, defeating West Monona, Boyar Valley, Woodbine, and West Harrison all by a score of 2-0.
This was a huge rebound for the Royals. ¨We needed to get our heads back in the right place, ¨ says Senior Ellie Hilbrands. The Royals struggled last week, getting shut out at Akron and losing in the 5th set in Hinton. ¨We did not play great last week. We knew we were a better team than what we had been playing like and the tournament showed. We need to keep this energy rolling through the rest of the season if we want to win the important district games. ¨
Royals Shutout H-LP 3-0

H-LP was still looking for their first win of the season at 0-5. The night started off a little slow for the Royals. The Wolves hung around for a while in the first, but the Royals took the set 25-19. The rest of the night was all MMCRU. The Royals only allowed 12 points in the second set, winning it 25-12. The score of the third was 25-10. This win keeps the Royals playoff chances high, moving them up to 2-2 against conference opponents.
